Let me tell you...I know a thing or two about horticulture, and this is one of the best places to shop for plants on the east coast of the US, if not the entire country. Stan, the owner, is a retired professor of botany, and knows so much more about plants and ecology than the typical person staffing nurseries that there is simply no comparison in the experience you will have. His expertise on many topics is second to none, and his staff are also very well informed and enthusiastic. They stock incredibly rare natives and non-natives that are vetted for not being a threat to local ecosystems. And the plants are well grown and reasonably priced. Even better there are display gardens where you can sometimes see what you are buying, planted out in a garden setting. Treat yourself to a visit, even if it feels like you are driving to the end of the Earth! Well, you are driving to the end of Maryland, but don't worry, it's just Pennsylvania on the other side!

Run by a husband and wife, this is a great local nursery for native plants especially. They both are very knowledgeable, and the staff is friendly and helpful. As I said, they have a great selection of native perennials; flowering, shrubs, and of varying heights. They do a great job of recommending plants, so make sure to learn a little about your area and what you want (how much sun, afternoon or morning sun, direction facing, kind of soil, etc). They will help you if you're not sure. Prices are fair, they even threw in a free plant for me, but I bought a lot, so don't expect it. Paid with cash, not sure about credit, forgot to ask. Highly recommend, especially if you're looking to make a rock garden, shade garden, or just want more pollinators.

Many thanks to Stan for delivering a hard-to-source specimen for my native butterfly habitat, and in prime condition. My first dealing with Kollar Nursery and it's heartening to come across a business with such exceptional dedication to quality and word of honor.
