I saw Dr. Reyes-Castano and found him to be very though and professional. He saw me prior to a thyroidectomy for CA and partial parathyriodectomy related to elevated CA levels. He always made sure I understood all information during each visit. As an RN. Was always comfortable with the services he provided. It is ashamed that he will not remain in practice at MGH. I will also say that the staff in the reception was not up to the same standards.

Went to make an apt and was told no apt until Jul but when I said fine they said I would have to call back to make the apt 60 days ahead. You should be able to set up an apt when the Dr is available. Probably a very good Dr if you get an apt.

The prior review was not of the physician but an insurance issue. That does not seem representative of the office or Dr. Reyes-Castano. I have seen him for diabetes, and had a great experience. Of course, there was a wait to make an appointment initially because he is very good and very busy. However, it was well worth the 2 month wait. He is knowledgeable, caring, and addressed all of my issues and concerns. I would highly recommend him to my family and friends.

I scheduled an appointment with Dr. John J. Reyes-Castano two months ago and gave his staff all my insurance information. I came into my appointment about 10 minutes early. They asked for my insurance information again and said that they need to check my eligibility (I am a veteran and healthcare provider, and my insurance is Tricare). I waited approximately 20 minutes before being called by the nurse for vital signs and again they asked for my social security number (SS#) because “their system is not recognizing my name, SS# or my date of birth”. I asked them to call the Tricare # for eligibility. They said “we are not the billing department and therefore do not make calls”. The nurse asked me to have a seat in the treatment room and said “the doctor will be with you soon”. More than an hour after arriving and while sitting in the treatment room alone, the nurse came in and said that “the doctor will not see you because we cannot verify your insurance”. I told her to call the Tricare # and she refused saying again “they are not the billing department”. I then requested that the doctor see me today, since I cancelled my patients for this morning to be here, and waited two months for the appointment, due to their schedule. I told the nurse that they could either bill me any amount not covered by insurance or I will pay the full amount today and their can reimburse me anything that insurance does not cover (in other words treat me like a patient who has no insurance and is paying cash). She refused again and stated that “the doctor cannot see you because he cannot enter the procedures if they do not verify insurance”. I spoke to the front desk staff who again refused to allow the doctor to see me claiming that doctor doesn’t want to see me because they cannot verify my insurance, and that they do not make phone call to verify insurance. Dr. Reyes-Castano never saw me and did not even come out to speak to me and allowed his staff to relay his messages. Needless to say I am very disappointed as a retired Veteran and healthcare provide and wanted to make sure that Dr. Reyes-Castano’s existing and future patients are aware of this situation. Thanks to anyone who read this long explanation/complaint. By the way, as soon as I got home, I called the Tricare number and immediately checked my insurance verification, it was fine, no issues whatsoever. This was the most unprofessional experience I’ve ever had.
