Psych Associates of Maryland - Gaithersburg

I scheduled an initial evaluation for today a month ago at which point we mentioned disability benefits were in process. They proceeded to schedule the appointment. The day prior to my appointment I emailed them to confirm the appointment would cover the necessary paperwork and did not receive a response. However, today (the day of the appointment) I received an email cancelling my appointment because they do not do evaluations for disability. I was not asked to keep the appointment anyway as it was still needed to refill one of my medications. When I requested to keep my appointment the receptionist took it upon herself to now call this request a same day appointment and refused to see me as this is not their practice on appointments. Please explain to me how this is a same day appointment when I already had one scheduled that I planned on keeping and you cancelled on your own terms?! If you wish to not have your time wasted, AVOID THIS PRACTICE AT ALL COSTS. If a patient were to cancel the same day, they are quick to collect a same day cancellation or no show fee from you.

The doctor helping me is incredibly kind and thoughtful. Im not used to have a psychiatrist who is either of those things so I was absolutely blown away by her care. The people at the front desk have been helpful as I figured things out with my insurance and they have made sure I am able to get the care I need. The care provided by the team here has greatly increased my quality of life and I am so thankful I found them.

I love my physician: They're professional, compassionate, and incredibly helpful. Unfortunately their administrative system makes getting care a challenge. Unlike most other offices in the area, they do not have an online platform of any kind. That means you cannot schedule/cancel appointments, or pay bills online. You can only pay via phone, in-person (if your appt is in-person), or by mailing a check. This would be fine if each interaction didn't require an ongoing game of phone-tag to accomplish. Nearly every call to their office is routed to voicemail. The office will usually ignore any requests I have regarding the best time to call. This has not improved for the entire time I've been a patient here. Again - I love my physician. It's hard to find good mental healthcare professionals who accept insurance. But I'm still considering leaving, because every other physician's office I use has managed to transition to some sort of auto-pay or online pay platform, and it's just too burdensome to devote so much time to paying my bill every month.
