A tree fell on my house 3 years ago during hurricane Sandy. Our public insurance adjuster referred "Jesse" of Cook Construction to do the job, stating that she used him with many previous clients. Taking her word, we hired him to complete the roof and other damage repairs to our town home. I took off of work to be home for the first day of interior repairs and he and his crew were a no show. My public adjuster assured me that this was not typical of the company and that Jesse said they would paint the interior free of charge. They picked up the paint and we paid for the paint, the labor was to b e free of charge as compensation for my wasted day when they did not show. After the job was done, I was asked to sign a contract that stated I would be responsible for paying for the paint job if my insurance didn't pay. I refused to sign it, reminding them that I was told the paint job was free. He tried to convince me to sign it saying that the insurance company would pay. I refused, because that is not what the contract said. I never signed it. Fast forward to this week, I am being sued for the paint job that I did not sign the contract for. They won't get a penny out of me, but this is unethical business!
