On the Water in Maine ® - Vacation Property Rentals

This company is incredibly strict about how you leave the property at the end of your rental period. My family, my parents and my sister's family spent a lovely week at the rental home. However, the interactions with the rental property staff following our stay have left a terrible taste in our mouth. If you stay with this company, be prepared to thoroughly clean the home before you leave. if you have children, make sure you leave no sticky hand prints, and every toy is put back in the exact correct place. We were charged $125 extra cleaning fee. The funny thing is i thought we left it in very good shape. We completed all the tasks asked of us. Started the dishwasher and washing machine. Cleaned up. They claimed we brought a dog, and we did not. And they claimed the toys were not put away properly. When we left, all toys were put away. Very frustrating experience. Lastly, I have never been charged a cleaning fee after staying at dozens of other rentals. Buyer beware! One more thing, they cherrypick their reviews on their websites. Only the good ones are on their site.

I wish I could give them negative stars. We booked a house with On the Water in Maine during an extremely busy time. I spoke to them on the phone several times and we had a contract. We were notified less than a week before we were to check in that there was "some kind of miscommunication" and the house was suddenly not available. We had a signed contract!!! They did NOTHING to fix the situation. Just said they were sorry. We were coming from far away and had booked a hotel to stay at on our way. I could not get a refund and they didn't even offer to cover that. Totally unprofessional. DO NOT TRUST THIS COMPANY! There are lots of good rental agencies in Maine. This is not one of them!
