Great Thai food in the Portland area! We go here often for takeout. Try the Pad Thai and the fried rice - both YUM! Super nice owners as well.

Sala Thai is the BEST Thai restaurant in Maine---no question. Their delicious food is consistently excellent and I have NEVER had a bad meal there in the 16 years I have been a customer. Emien and Eid, the owners, are always welcoming and warm. The service is friendly and efficient, and the menu has an impressive variety that will satisfy an palate. The lunch specials are inexpensive, and the portions are generous. Their Coconut ice cream is the best I have ever tasted---even in countries where coconuts grow indigenously. I have tried many other Thai restaurants in Portland, So. Portland, Freeport, and in other Maine locations, but NONE of them comes close to the superb quality and tasty food that Sala Thai serves. I can easily eat there twice a week and I never tire of their amazing presentations. Favorites: Massaman Duck Curry, Laab Gai,Shrimp Choo Chee, Sala Thai Fish (served piping hot and served tableside, whole)Pad Thai, Drunken Noodle, Fresh Spring Rolls, Sala Thai Rolls, Katong Tong. Vegetarians will be delighted as well as omnivores, as they feature an array of vegetarian delights. Sala Thai is the BEST!---Dr. Jan Broberg Carter, Portland, Maine.

I have been coming to Sala Thai for over 15 years, I came as a kid, as a teen, and now as an adult, and nothing compares. This family owned and operated business is one of a kind. The staff are so friendly, and the food is superb. It's authentic, rich, and fresh. The sauces are made with real ingredients, the produce is fresh, and meat cooked perfectly. I have basically had everything on this menu. The crab rangoons are stuffed with crab, not cream cheese, the spring rolls are tightly packed crispy packages of love, and the soups are spectacular, specifically the Tom Yum shrimp soup. My all time fav is pad prik king (sp?), and ginger and scallion, which is made in a rich brown sauce, which def. has butter in it, not crap oil or margarine. Lunch specials are the best, you get their homemade chicken soup, with an ever changing mix of random veggies in it, two spring rolls, and a healthy serving of the dish, along with fried rice....for 7.99! I love this place, always have, and am totally ok with it being a hidden gem. The outside might spook a lot of people, which sucks, because honestly, it's the best thai in town. It's sad to see others not agree, they obviously don't know what they are talking about...
