I used to visit passage to india back in 2008. Oh I still miss the food. I was employed in Scarborough and the only Indian cuisine around was tjis restaurant. Butter chicken was just awesome. I hope I come. Some day to Portland and get chance to visit this place.

WOW! I am so excited that great indian food in heart of Casco Bay!! Historic Portland is an amazing place to visit but it definitely is lacking in culinary diversity. I heard “passage to India†from Portland maps and Google Review. I decided to try it tonight with my friend. The restaurant has indoor and outdoor seating (only 3 tables), so we decided to sit outdoors at historic/ entertainment Wharf street. The menu is the perfect size. Many times when I eat Indian food in NYC, I am really overwhelmed by the menu. This menu has everything from Samosas to Biryani to Naan to Tandoor, but it is manageable. My wife and I started with the Vegetable Samosas. These were fantastic. Then we split the Lamb korma, Shrimp Curry and Garlic Naan. The Lamb korma was fantastic-- The shrimp were also amazing. The dish came with 6 jumbo shrimp which was perfect for my friend and I. The sauce was spicy- but not too spicy. The Garlic Naan was out of this world. Dipping it in the 2 different sauces was the best. The dishes also came with rice (a lot of Indian restaurants make you order rice, so this was a nice change). The service was perfect. Our waiter was able to give us knowledgeable advice on what to order. A nice touch was when the Restaurant Owner came out to ask us how we were doing. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed my experience at “Passage to Indiaâ€. The prices were good (for our meal + 2 glasses of wine, the bill came out to $58). The service was good, and the food was great! I am so happy that we found authentic Indian food in Portland, Maine. I definitely will be back.
