You don't expect much when you go to a strip mall buffet, but Jan Mee is always pleasant and welcoming. We've only been there three times, but they call us "regulars" which we think is charming. It's a great place to go with a group of friends - they have a lot of highlights on the buffet including peanut chicken, crab rangoons, and beef teriyaki. The only reason we're not giving it a 'loved it' is because that rating would really only go to fine dining restaurants. Otherwise, Jan Mee is the perfect little place to go for some quick, good food and great drinks.

As far as buffets go in a small city like Portland, you can't expect more. It's pretty good as is the service. If something is old and you complain they will make fresh. It's all family and they make you feel like part of it. I've been when it's busy and they might not refill my drink as often as i like but when it's slow they're great. I've had casual conversation with all the servers and one of the cooks. They're nice folks. I've seen them be incredibly patient with a few jerks too. And half off drinks with the buffet. Bam!

Horrible. Just horrible. I used to come to Jan Mee a few years back and it was really good. They "renovated" and put a buffet in... and I tried it just a little bit ago. The whole place is just sad. When my guest and I walked in we stood around waiting for someone to attend to us. There was no hostess station or anything. I peered around the corner to a busing station and a woman seated us at the our table. She asked us if we'd like anything to drink, we asked for water... then we waited for around 10 minutes, the water never came. So we went up to the buffet - and Jesus.... What a sad spread. There was very little of the "OVER 200 SELECTIONS!" they advertised - even though I only counted less than 40. Most items were your standard buffet fair, but they missed the mark. Biting into their rendition of a spring roll discovered a greasy home to cabbage alone, the dumplings dry and flavorless, served with no dipping sauces, the lo mein, while greasy, proved to be so old the noodles had a crusty crunch to them that the tired, angry looking buffet attendee couldn't stir away. They advertised sushi, but the fish looked horrible - and the "hibatchi" was unmanned while raw meat sat unattended, getting oxidized and dried out. After my first plate of awful, my mouth was dry from the overuse of salt and our waters had never come - I hunted down the bartender who was watching CNN and got myself some water. I tried a couple of other things - but it was all bad. Stay away... it was the WORST food I have even eaten! On our way out, my guests final words were... "I hope I don't get food poisoning" I echoed his sentiment.
