"Ol' man riverThat ol' man riverHe don't say nothingBut he must know something"Walk along the Old Man River Esplanade along the Mississippi River and you'll see many sights. A paddle wheeled steamboat, hundreds of tourists meandering about, the Grey Line tour company's ticket office, and a truly jaw-dropping monument of none other than Old Man River himself.It was sculpted from Carrara marble in 1991, and its kind of hard to describe. I mean how can you describe a guy holding his arms up, as if he's hoisting something over his head except for the fact that he has neither hands nor wrists? How do you explain his huge bulbous head? How do you explain that he is naked except for what looks like a cocktail napkin covering his privates? There is a nearby plaque that reads "A man with a past, arms reach empty handed, God to a city in Love with Water."This measures very high on the old quirkiness meter!
