I went to Fairway Medical Urgent Care for an X-ray for my arm several Friday nights ago. The lady working the front desk was not friendly at all. She seemed annoyed that I was "bothering" her by being there. The wait was not long which was awesome. The nurse that took my info/blood pressure etc. was exceptionally friendly and nice which was greatly appreciated. I hate going to the doctor and I avoid it at all costs. (I wouldn't have gone into the doctor for the Xray if my husband hadn't forced me to. I would have let it "heal" by itself.) She was easy to talk to and calmed my nerves.
When the doctor came to see me, he did not listen to me at all. He asked what was wrong, I told him I needed an Xray, that my right arm might be broken. And that also, that I would like for him to check my ear to make sure i didn't have an ear infection. (I had been having some pain) He went straight to checking my ears. Then he said, "No infection. They look good. A nurse will be in with your drugs." Then he left. Drugs? So a nurse came in about 5 minutes later with 2 small cups of drugs and 1 shot. She asked if I wanted my husband to stay in the room for the shot, since it would be in my butt. Both my husband and I immediately told her I would not be taking the drugs or the shot. I didn't need steroids or pain medicine. I need an Xray for my arm. She looked confused and left.
About 20 minutes later, another nurse comes in to take me to finally get what I came for... The X-ray. Ten minutes after the Xray, the doctor comes back in and says nothing is wrong with me and hands me 3 prescriptions for pain meds. If there is nothing wrong, why is he handing me all these prescriptions?
Of course, my husband and I paid the co-pay and left frustrated. We did not get any of the prescriptions filled and definitely believe that that doctor thought I was a hypochondriac and a waste of his time.
Since the doctor said there was nothing wrong, I had been using my arm just the same as always to the best of my ability with the pain. I had even lead worship, playing guitar, in church that Sunday morning. (I almost passed out during the last song because of the pain. It was bad.) Monday came and the pain was the worst it had been so I decided to take my X-rays to someone else for a second opinion.
The second doctor found that my arm was fractured. It was a hairline fracture so sometimes they are hard to find. She said that if the first doctor would have taken time to look at it, he would have found it.
Oh.. and the only thing the doctor at Fairway reported to our insurance company is that I have chronic ear pain. What? No I don't. So our insurance said they couldn't cover the $308 cost because it was a pre-existing condition. So I have to pay $200 for the visit and $108 for an Xray for chronic ear pain? I don't think so. Does that make sense? No way!
So, if you want a doctor who won't listen to you but will give you TONS of drugs... go to Fairway Medical! I will never go back there.... and I would never recommend it to anyone.
