image Delicious, but don't go on a Saturday night during a special.

image When back for the first time since my husband and I got engaged. Similar to our first experience, we were blown away! Great service, incredible food. Favorite restaurant of all time!

image We go to a Melting Pot once a year for our Anniversary. Have been to doing it for six years and have been to four different ones in other States. This one is comparable to the rest. Staff is knowledgeable and easy to talk to. Food is excellent. Price for us is always around $100 without drinks. Plan on being here two hours for a full course meal. Manager or owner did not come around to our Lovers Lane table at this one. At all others we have been to we got to talk to the manager or owner for about fifteen minutes and learn about the area.

image The only reason that I didn't give this place 1 star is because the desert was good. The bread for the cheese was stale, the cheese itself smelled bad and tasted worse than it smelled, the nearly invisible tray of veggies was half dried out and the VERY wet half cut up granny smith apple was starting to turn brown. Then we got salad, I got the California, it was DROWNING in dressing and the candied pecans were too sweet. Wendy's has better salads and a LOT cheaper. Finally the desert... all I have to say about it really is that it didn't totally suck like the rest of the courses, but we got the cookies and cream and the dark chocolate didn't really have much flavor. They added a small dollop of marshmallow fluff and the equivalent of one crumbled up Oreo with a splash of something that flamed. Dipping sub par cut up items into this mix was kind of fun, but honestly, the flavor was nothing to get excited about. Everyone seemed to enjoy the novelty of dipping their food and had a good time, but the food tasted pretty bad and I felt sick for a good 24 hours after eating it.

image My husband and I have eaten at The Melting Pot about 2-3 times a year since it opened. Yes, it's expensive, and we have to save up money to go there, but the food and service are (or rather, WERE) totally worth it. We've celebrated several birthdays and anniversaries there, but our experience this past weekend pretty much made us decide NEVER to go back.
When TMP first opened, we were blown away by how knowledgeable the staff was; our servers told us that part of their pre-service training was that they had to have tried every dish, so that they would be able to give recommendations to customers or tell them the details about a dish. This knowledge was extremely helpful, especially when it came to the various seasonal specials.
However, our last server had only tried a handful of dishes; when asked for details about one of the dessert fondues, he explained that he could only recommend one, because that was the only one he'd had! Although he was courteous, he tended to be slow and forgetful, sometimes taking 2-3 trips before remembering to fill our glasses or bring more bread. He apologized and explained that it was only his 9th day on the job.
And apparently, it wasn't just us who had similar experiences. We overheard the server at the table next to us explaining it was only his 10th day on the job. And as we were getting ready to leave, we overheard ANOTHER customer speaking with the manager about the slow, inattentive service they had received. (In fairness, it should be noted that our experience [and the observed experience of other patrons] was only in reference to the quality of service, not the food. The food was excellent.)
But more than the decreased quality of service, the behavior of the OWNER of TMP ultimately led to our decision.
We went out to the parking lot to find a large SUV parked behind our car. We'd parked in front of the grass on the far edge of the parking lot, and with another car next to us, there was no way for us to get out. The process of tracking down the vehicle owner took the better part of 20 minutes. Finally a woman came over to us and quickly identified herself as "the owner of The Melting Pot". She explained when she'd gone into the kitchen, she asked one of the employees if he drove a Camry, and when he answered "Yes", she informed him that she's parked her car behind his. (Never mind that there were multiple Camrys in the parking lot.)
She apologized in a way that blamed the employee for the misunderstanding, then went back inside to get her keys. When she returned, she told me that she asked the employee where he'd parked his car; when he said he'd parked it on the other side of the building, she said, "I told him, 'You need to drink more coffee!'" (verbatim quote). She blamed the employee for a mistake that was entirely hers. Not once did she accept responsibility for her mistake, nor did she offer any kind of compensation for making us wait for almost half an hour. I expect better behavior from the owner of an upscale restaurant toward their customers (or toward anyone else, for that matter.)
Not only will we not be returning there, but we're telling friends not to bother going there either; it's not worth it anymore.
