image Great local hardware store in Coralville. Friendly and helpful staff will assist you with those hard-to-find items. Interior decor is what you'd expect from an old local shop.

image I recently had a very bad experience with this store, and I wouldn't have probably said anything, except I saw that others were complaining about this store's mechanic, and I thought I would share my story as well. My husband took our snow blower in this winter, and he was told that it would take a couple of weeks to get too. I called in a couple of weeks later to check on it, and the mechanic was extremely rude. Telling me that we should have planned ahead and gotten it in earlier, and he said that he hadn't even had a chance to look at it, even though we were told a couple of weeks.
When he finally did look at it, he was really rude again. I don't know anything about mechanical things (I'm sorry), but he treated me like I was an idiot because of the way we took care of the snow blower. I was really offended. I always appreciate advice, but not if it's given to me in a way that's so insulting, and really, I just wanted to give them the money and have them fix my snow blower. I don't know why that needed to come with a lot of harsh words from the mechanic.
We won't be going to them for any future repairs. If you need your blower or lawn mower repaired, I would go to Cedar Rapids before taking it here.

image From other reviews, it seems like the CV store has some serous customer service issues, which is what I experienced. A few months ago I took my snow blower in to possibly talk about a trade in for a small one that I could manage. It was a Craftsman that I paid $585 and only had about 10 hours on it. At first, the mechanic was friendly and said yes they would take a look at it and thought I could use a smaller one. They picked up my blower but never heard anything. When I called in two weeks the mechanic was quite rude and said he wasnt working on snow blowers yet. Mine wasnt in for a repair, but only to see what they might give me towards a new blower. I stopped in the store about a week later and talked to the manager about my experience and he apologized, found my blower in the back and said hed have to have the mechanic look at it, but maybe $250. He also took the time to show me different blowers they sold. I explained the rudeness of the mechanic and he apologized and said it should only take him a few minutes to look at and he would call me the first of the week. I never heard after a week so called and the manager and he was very evasive. After hee-hawing around he said that he did have the mechanic take a look and said it probably would need a carbonator due to gas being left in it over the season. I had put gas in it that fall to make sure it was working. He finally said hed have the mechanic take another look, but would probably be looking at $125 or so. Are you kidding! My cousin was in town and immediately went and picked it up. Was treated rude again. He took it back to Maquoketa where he lives to have the place they purchase all their machinery at take a look. Well, he said there was nothing wrong with the carbonator. I ended up getting $325 for that blower and purchased the same blower I was looking at in Coralville for $40 less. Needless-to-say, it was a very stressful and frustrating experience with the CV store. Also, about five years ago I took in my 20 year old snow blower as it was stopping once I started it. They told me it wouldnt be worth looking at it as it was too old and no parts available. I would have even paid to have it checked. Again, a friend came to my rescue and came to my house to look at it. After changing the spark plugs and adjusting the carbonator, it worked like a charm for the next couple of years until I saved enough to buy a new one. Too bad as the CV store staff is very helpful whenever I go in looking for something for a project Im doing as a single female. Im not sue though that Ill ever take any of my equipment in even for an oil change or tune up. Im sure there are other places that are more customer friendly and not just trying to make a sale. I certainly hope this information makes it back to the owner of the CV store. Not a good way to keep customers coming back.
