Bed bug and roach infested apartment complex would not recommend

Boy do I wish I would have done my research on the place before I moved in. I have been here for about a week now and I have already found 3 cockroaches in my apartment, not counting the dead ones that were here when I moved in. On my move in, I spent the first afternoon in my apartment cleaning it. There was trash left behind, dead roaches, gunk on the counters, a mess. Not to mention the hideous huge water damaged spot on my living room ceiling that looks like something out of silent hill. I brought the roach problem up to the landlord, who acted like it wasn't a big problem. In fact, he even told me that in larger complexes, it is a very common problem. No, no it's not. I've lived in several complexes much larger than this and this is the first time I've ever had roaches in my apartment. It's a common problem with poor upkeep and a total lack of maintenance. I was told that an exterminator was scheduled to come out in a month! Meanwhile I get to sit in my apartment where hopes and dreams come to die and watch my roach problem get bigger until it is passively dealt with. I have a feeling that I will be breaking this lease early and just taking the hit on the deposit. Lesson learned.
