image If it was possible to give this company less stars I would’ve. Mark Smith is the worse of all. Starting with there being discrepancies in my billing with double and triple charges. This company does not care about you or your family, only the money you bring to the table. If you value yourself, morals, your money or anything involving your family I would not do any business with this company. Counseling with Mark was like you were by yourself. He did not listen to you. He was daydreaming while you were talking about your issues.

image Mark was able to pinpoint the real issues so we could work through them efficiently. He was slightly more expensive than our last counselor, but his ability to make both of us feel heard has actually saved us time and money. Worth every penny!

image Mark has a no-nonsense approach that works for me when no other counseling really has. The office is kind and welcoming, and between videos, books, skype and in person sessions, Mark has helped me to see who I am more clearly and make changes to my life that help me learn and grow. He met me where I was and is truly helping me improve my life and relationships.

image "There are certain traumas so intense that they can permeate the DNA of a place or an institution, altering and defining the generations whose awareness of the event may be vague or nonexistent." ~ Robert Chalmers, British Journalist
Family Tree facilitates effective sanity restoration to people suffering with low self-esteem. The key to addressing wounding insecurities is to understand WHY you have it. Their methodology is to begin with an intensive study of your 5-generational family-of-origin tree. This concept is a coup-fourré for me, because knowing relatives (even those existing under the same roof when I was younger... and those as close as 100 miles away today) is vehemently forbidden.
Turns out there are extreme emotional cutoffs, verbal aggressions, triangulations, coercions, manipulations, smear campaigns and the many faces of malignant narcissism searing the veins of my 'ancestry'.
Although being a Family Of None is a hardship nobody wants to claim--and will be shamed by society--self clarity, sovereignty and dignity are worth it.
Family Tree Counseling Associates YouTube channel is invaluable in understanding and alleviating the damaging affects of narcissistic cruelty. Watch it. Then do likewise.
Empathy to me, empathy to you on our journey.

image If you are fortunate enough to recognize the need for help at the cross-roads of a personal or relationship crisis, take advantage of the opportunity to review the material on the Family Tree website. Mark and Family Tree heavily invest in providing access to useful introductory material providing a starting point in the rewarding journey of recovery from the inevitable wounds everyone encounters at some point.
Exploring the introductory material and reading books are only part of the process involved in finding the path of recovery and only the beginning of the process. Knowing there is a path to recovery, finding the path to recovery, and staying on the path to recovery are all required, but truly separate processes in pursuit of healing, recovery, and growth. Meaningful and sustainable progress requires an experienced and skilled guide. Invest in yourself and your relationships by exploring the material in the website and find the guide who best fits with you and your needs. One size does not fit all.
The best opportunity for sustained recovery requires commitment to the methodical process and there are no short-cuts. I was frustrated, had doubts, and wondered if I was too broken to have the relationships I wanted and become the father, husband, and friend I knew I wanted to become.
I remained committed. Mark provided honest, sometimes brutal but needed input, and ultimately I was able to locate the path to recovery, enter the path to recovery, and begin the journey. Once on the path, I discovered to my delight that the path was protected with guardrails we built and I was carrying with me the necessary tools to confront the inevitable challenges in the journey on my path. The path never ends and recognition of this reality can be overwhelming, nevertheless my relationships have never been healthier and the prospects for their improvement remain brighter than ever because I equipped myself with Mark's professional assistance.
The return on the investment (and I understand it's expensive in every sense) in myself exceeded my expectations and could not have been achieved without the consistent, skilled, and experienced guidance provided by Mark.
