The first time I was here... I was skeptical about this massage since the instructor Colleen B. Said these students only know how to do basic Swedish massage... and that my requests for deep tissue or Shiatsu would not be happening. As I looked as if I was about to leave she convinced me to try it out... and I got an excellent STRONG swedish massage from Meghan (?). So relaxing that the hour went by like lightning. Second visit... while knowing I prefer stronger massages... Colleen B. assigns me the smallest of the students who shakes my hand limply with paws the size of my palm... while giving the tiny older lady in the room a 6'6" guy. Really genius? So am I suffering through an oily petting for about 15 min... trying to ask for more pressure.  This student is bad... no pressure level check, no wrapping or sheet draping, have to ask for bolsters and pillow... strokes are uneven... And then the astute Colleen B. comes by to say she's doing a great job and that I need to manage my expectations... this isn't a spa and this student is doing everything correctly.  Uhhm yeah Colleen... that's why you got the bolster when I asked where it was...Not worth the the small savings you get coming here... it's a gamble and a waste of an hour... next time I'll just hit my normal reflexology place.

The massages at the Solex Medical Academy can be a "hit or miss" experience because they are done by students. If you get a brand new student who hasn't done many massages you might not be very impressed, however the "over-achiever" students always seem to do a great job right from the start as do the students who are nearing the end of their clinicals. Your constructive critiques after the massage help the students identify areas they need to improve thereby assisting them to improve their techniques. The instructor is awesome and always tries to accomodate my schedules when making appointments. I love that the massages are very inexpensive and that they have evening hours. It is a college so don't expect pure luxury as the massages are done in a large room, the tables partitioned only by curtains and the instructor might come by and ask how the massage is going. If you want a luxury spa treatment, don't go here. If you want a decent massage with no frills simply to relieve your aches and pains of the week - you can't beat the price!
