As a former business owner with over 40+ years’ experience working with both large and small accounting firms, I can tell you what is a turn-off for me in accounting services. Fees Firms that charge by the minute, and every phone call you make to the accountant will raise your bill. Availability You have to schedule a time to come into the office and talk in person. Personal Connection You don’t feel comfortable discussing your finances, and you aren’t getting the service you need. Attention to detail Not having a sharp eye for detail. Communication and business partnering skills Accountants who exist in a numbers bubble. Technology Proficiency Accountants who aren’t proficient in multiple popular software suites for the accounting profession. Dana was great - we had an odd scenario where my wife had already filed her Iowa and federal returns but had difficulty filing her Illinois return. Dana had us sorted out in a few days and was very communicative. Next year we’ll be filing jointly through her for sure.
