Amazing music instructor! I've taken lessons off and on throughout my life but have always lost interest after a bit. Tabla is a great little hand drum that anyone can learn (with even a little practice time put in). But most amazing, is the instructor!! Sandipji teaches voice, tabla, sitar, and Indian rhythm on any instrument. He has a unique style of instruction that works wonders with small kids to seniors (both of which have say next to my in group lessons). He makes you WANT to learn! He also rents and sells tabla and sitar, but you don't need to purchase one to start lessons. I'm so glad I've found him!!

Nearly 10 months after starting lessons at the Sandip Burman School of Music, I write this review as a reminder of how much Sandipji's teaching has changed my playing and my life for the better. The focus, discipline, and self-awareness that he is able to get out of myself and the rest of the students is incredible. As for the subject of Indian music itself, Sandipji offers a complete education in not one but three subjects - tabla (rhythm), sitar and voice (melody.) He does this effectively in group lessons and online classes via Skype, and I've been fortunate to learn from him in both settings. A little bit of research online will show anyone that this kind of mastery and all-around experience is a rarity, and it's basically impossible to find for the price that it's offered at. Indian classical music has fascinated musicians ranging from the Beatles to John Coltrane to 20th century composers - Sandipji's school gives anyone the chance to experience and learn the music directly from the source.

I started my son here at 3.5 years old, for tabla lessons. Wow! Not only was he expanding his vocabulary at a faster rate, but his shyness and concentration improved within 2.5 months of lessons. It was a struggle initially, to keep him focused on practice, but I could see the self-esteem boost when his practice paid off! Sandipji is a MASTER instructor who has a way with kids that I've never in my life seen before. Take your kid here and you will see amazing results, not just the instrument, in a few short months. My son has found a great life mentor as well as a phenomenal music instructor.
