image One of my go-to Indian places. Such good food, kind staff, and BYOB (no corkage fee). They’re also really great about accommodating larger parties if you call head. Love these guys!

image We've tried a bunch of Indian restaurants in Chicago and have yet to find one we like as much as Hema's. We've been getting the Shahi Paneer, Choosa Tikka Masala, rice, and naan for years now.

image Very rude and indifferent!
We went there expecting great authentic Indian food and service as we had heard great things about this place but were terribly disappointed.
Our evening started with a short Indian waitress who seemed to be a student. She seemed friendly at first and advised on the different options.
The problems started with the soup. They ran out of good old tomato soup(not sure how it could run out of a staple item). So we settled for Mulligatwany soup. We expected a thin soup consistency but we received a lentil soup consistency which was absolutely fine. When we brought this up to the waitress that it was not upto our expectations, she mentioned that it was catering to American tastes and her response was very rude.
We ordered Spinach pakoras. The waitress shoved it on the table and a couple pieces fell on the table. She did not apologize and did not even bother to put it back.
The samosas were very subpar and lacked flavor.
We then went on to the entrees. Almost half of the vegetarian entrees had potatoes in them. TIP: Reduce the number of entrees in general and the ones with potatoes.
We ordered Paneer Achari, Bhindi(Okra) masala and vegetable Vindaloo. The Paneer Achari was ok. So was the Bhindi masala. The vegetable vindaloo had a lot of frozen vegetables in it. The sauce was ok though.
We ordered Spinach Naan, Butter Naan and Garlic Naan. The naans were very good.
The Peas Pulao was very subpar and was pretty bland.
Towards the end, while cleaning the dishes, the cleaner accidentally dropped a fork on my friend. Is this the way to clean a table? When the cleaner went back, the waitress gestured her to just 'ignore' us.
We then asked for the waitress to give her some feedback. But she did not come and instead sent for the manager. The manager covered up saying the girl was a student and that he would give proper training.
Overall I felt the waitress was rude, the food was bland and the selection was not good . I would never go again !!
