Cap'n Crunch: How many of you (like myself) thought this cereal was called Captain Crunch as a kid? It's actually Cap'n Crunch and it's been manufactured by the Quaker Oats Company since 1963. Today I have the standard version, but other varieties include Peanut Butter Crunch, Crunch Berries, and Oops! All Berries (as well as some limited time offerings). The box is an eye catching red and depicts the cereal's mascot, who is appropriately named The Cap'n (full name Horatio Magellan Crunch). The cereal's slogan can also be seen "crunch-at-ize me Cap'n!". I don't recall this cereal being much of a staple in our pantry when I was a kid, but I do associate it with my Aunt's house as I frequently munched on it there. It's a very basic cereal made of corn and oats that is a golden color with plenty of sweetness and quite a crunch. Sometimes simple is better than complex and in this case basic is a good thing as it's done right. Although it falls just shy of my top five sugary cereals it's still Doughboy approved and I'm sure I'll be buying more of The Cap'n (along with bottles of that other Captain....)
