I'm a dyed in the wool booze hound and I thought I had seen it all. A coworker goes down Green St everyday after work, once in a while he gives me a ride home. We'd go past the place and comment that we should stop in sometime because it looked real shady. So one day we did.
First of all, this is not a restaurant, though clearly it once was. In the foyer there is a glass case on the wall - inside a menu. That menu has been obscured by a napkin someone hung with a piece of scotch tape, their way of saying KITCHEN CLOSED. The dining room looks like a haunted house, abandoned and desolate with empty chairs. But the bar lives on, supported by an array of what must be regulars. The bartender had to be 65 and said not a word as she brought our beers. It was stark quiet, no one seemed to move. We finished our drinks and got out. What propels Valente's to stay in business, I do not know.
