Sad that they are closing there doors. Excellent place to shop and low prices for food and other things.

This review is only for the Deli. I was greeted with eye rolling and a heavy sigh. I tried to shake off by greeting Sandra very nicely. She responded with a one word answer and then glared at me. She made me feel that I had inconvenienced her by stepping foot in her area. I have not been shopping at Smith's very long but normally I love it. After being treated poorly several times in the deli I felt compelled to write this review. I will no longer be going to the deli at this store.

Four days ago, I special ordered a birthday cake for my youngest daughter. The bakery woman who both took the order and made the cake was rather rude when I picked it up. But it was very beautifully decorated and so I was just nice about it and thanked her, in spite of her rude attitude towards us. I'm always very careful about transporting cakes and so secured it on a flat surface in the back of the car and drove carefully and slowly. But by the time we got home, one entire side of the cake had slid off and was continuing to collapse. I initially chalked it up to the inevitable motion of the car until I noticed that the filling between the layers was squelching out and that the entire cake was unusually wet and runny. Over the next couple of hours, the cake continued to deteriorate with filling coming through the frosting and the cake was sagging everywhere. Since my child's birthday wasn't until Saturday, I called the bakery and explained the situation. She offered to remake the cake at no additional charge. I happily agreed and picked up the replacement (which, much to our disappointment, wasn't nearly as pretty as the first one) a little over two hours later. We opted for a different filling this time, in case the first flavor was the issue. When I picked up the replacement, the same woman lectured me about not tipping the cake and had even put a note on the cake about not tipping it. That annoyed me, since we'd never tipped it anyway and the problem certainly wasn't my fault. But, again, I was just nice about it. I secured the cake on a flat surface and drove carefully back home. But when I arrived, I discovered the replacement cake HAD DONE THE EXACT SAME THING! The cake continued to gradually fall apart over the next few hours, but I didn't bother calling the bakery this time. Even though my child's birthday wasn't until Saturday, we just decided to sing and do cake that night before it deteriorated further. But when we cut into the cake after dinner, I could immediately tell that there was something wrong with the frosting. It was extremely runny and very, very wet. It also tasted nasty. I ended up scraping off and throwing big globs of it in the sink in an attempt to try and save the cake part. But, as of this morning, the other sides have also collapsed and even the top of the cake looks "melted." I've never had this problem before with a store-bought cake. The cake was so bad that I had to call a different bakery this morning and grovel to see if they could make a cake today to replace this disaster. I've never in my life spent so much money on cake before and am really angry that we were sold such a poor quality item. It's even more insulting that the woman was rude to us--TWICE!--and also had the gall to blame me for the problems with her awful cake. And, for the record, the reason I special-ordered the cake is because I bought one of their pre-made "Bakery Fresh" cakes a couple of years ago for my older daughter's birthday. It looked great, but was one of the worst cakes I'd ever had in my life until today. The frosting was also really granular and tasted so nasty. We ended up throwing part of it out because no one wanted to eat it. So with that experience and the one this weekend, it's a sure bet that I'll never order cakes from Smith's bakery again. Boo!!!
