I have a 25hp Craftsman riding lawn mower I took to Turin Mower because it was not running correctly. James asked me what all I had done to fix the issue, which included new fuel filter, spark plugs, gas, removed and cleaned the carburetor. James said he would change the oil and take a look at the machine and call me with an update. Two days later I received a phone call stating my mower was ready to come pickup. Upon arriving I paid $68 (Oil change and 1/2 hour labor) for an oil change and an "adjustment to the carb" ok GREAT! If my mower was running correctly I was good with that. One of the mechanics that works there got my mower and put it on the trailer. I noticed the choke was pulled out half way and I asked why. I informed him when this mower is running correctly with the current temp (67 degrees) after one minute it should not need to be pulled. He assured me it was "Just fine". Ok, I start to tie down the machine and where it was parked on the trailer I could not achieve a good point of contact so I attempted to start it and move it to a better location. The mower barley started... there was no difference from full throttle and moving the gas lever to the idling position. The mower acted the exact same way it did when I dropped it off. So I went back it was almost 5pm. I asked them if they could look at it then but the mechanic just about threw a hissie fit so I decided it would be ok to wait one more day and drive an additional 25 miles so I did not disturb his evening. Next day James calls me and states that I need a new carburetor...wait for it... $380 for the one part. I asked him if it was possible to rebuild the carburetor and he quickly informed me "You cannot trust a rebuilt carburetor". Ummm.... just for you people who do not know YES YOU CAN. A carburetor is entirely metal or aluminum and anything that is not metal is replaced with the rebuild kit (IE Gaskets, rubber rings and plastic pieces). He also informed me he put my carb in his "carburetor washer" and that would have fixed it if possible. I told him $380 was too much and I would let him know within 24 hours what I was going to do with the mower. Calling around a new carburetor $240 (also he could have rebuild my old one and sold it if i had taken his $380 option). I found someone that offered to rebuild my carburetor for a much more economical amount so I went and got the carb from James. When I dropped off the carb to be rebuilt I noticed it had not been cleaned anymore than when I dropped it off. Carb was rebuilt and I took it back to James to have him put it back on (It only takes 5-10 minutes to remove or attach) he said he would have it back by the end of the week (It was Monday). Friday afternoon at 2pm I call and ask how it was looking and James informed me he was putting it back together. When i pulled up my mower was sitting in front of the building so I walked in to see if there was anything else he needed from me. James informed me he had put the carb back on but now it was not running at all. Ummm... ok. So he tried to use ether to start it while I was there (I would not use ether on my equipment normally but I was ready to leave). He said there was not going to be a charge. Well no kidding you did not do anything. I took it to the guy who rebuilt the carb... Either this guy does not know what he is doing, does not pay attention to detail or just does not care. He had the fuel line pinched.... My mower runs like it is brand new now and it cost me a total of $60 for the rebuild carb. I would not recommend doing business with someone of this character. The only reason I gave it "Good Appeal" is because they are located off of HWY 16.
