AN APPALLING DINING EXPERIENCE IN EAST POINT. We were dropping off a friend for a Sunday morning flight and went to go get breakfast at Thumbs Up in East Point. When we arrived, there was a quite a line outside, so we decided to try Our Place instead. We were seemingly the only people in the restaurant other than people finishing what appeared to be a breakfast buffet in the downstairs. Turns out, there is a good reason there was no line, as I'll explain. First off, they were blasting "inspirational R&B" which made just sitting inside the place a barely tolerable exercise, but maybe that's not my taste in music and maybe you love that... just know that could be the case before you walk in. We were told to sit anywhere... why was a breakfast/coffee/bakery place empty on a gorgeous Sunday at 11:15 AM? The waiter came and took our order after a couple of minutes. From the time that the waiter took our order and it was probably 12-15 minutes before coffees and waters were brought to us. Not a promising sign. My wife's coffee, as served, was the dregs of the carafe, so she was given a half cup of coffee with the promise of a refill when the next batch was brewed. No worries, that's understandable. But then I watched as the carafe was opened and the pump part that goes inside of the carafe was PLACED ON THE COUNTER while the next brew process occurred. This is out in the open where customers sit and anything could have been on that counter. Ewwww. During the entire time we were there (which turned out to be much longer than it ever should have been, about 1 hour and 20 minutes) the waiter never once offered to refill our coffees (or waters for that matter), including the half-cup of coffee that my wife was originally served, and just as well, since I don't want to drink coffee when the spout that goes into the coffee has been sitting on a public counter space. Gross. Our food took nearly an hour to be served from the time that we ordered it. At no time did anyone engage with us with a "sorry its taking so long" or "your food should be up in a couple of minutes" or any interaction at all. Even when the food arrived it was as if it is natural that it would take nearly an hour to get a simple breakfast made and served. (I remind you that we appeared to be the only people in the place who had orders in... Just eggs, toast, sausage, bacon, hash browns and a breakfast burrito, nothing crazy here.) About the food: the bacon turned out to be turkey bacon or something that was definitely not regular pork bacon (there was no mention of this on the menu). The breakfast burrito was room temperature, as if it was completed 20 minutes ago and sat out while they cooked the other food. I had to ask for ketchup, had to ask for the salsa that was supposed to come with the breakfast burrito. (I can understand if this place was hopping and in the rush some thing were overlooked but this was not the case at all.) The topper of the whole meal was when my wife found a piece of steel scrubber in her food when she was almost done eating. So, so gross. Never will I go back there and I suggest that neither should you. I'm sure they are nice people and trying their hardest etc etc but there are basic standards that need to be met to operate a restaurant. Our Place Bakery Cafe was a 100% FAIL by any measure.
