image One of the most unpleasant doctor appointments I have ever been to. Dr. Cyd-Williams is insensitive in her practice of medicine and lacks bedside manner. I went in for a routine exam with some underlying health concerns and she treated me with disdain. She spoke to me as though I did not have the intelligence to understand basic medical terminology and brushed over my follow-up questions. Only after bursting into tears did she even acknowledge my concerns.
It was honestly a traumatizing experience with a doctor and I sharing in the hopes that others avoid, or at least are able to manage their expectations when visiting her.

image Below you will find a version of the feedback I provided to the Piedmont Healthcare System about my appointment with Dr. Williams. Just in case you don't have time to read everything, I did not have a good experience during my second appointment with her. She was intolerant of my inability to make it through a very painful procedure. After my appointment, I felt intimated, embarrassed, and I was in an incredible amount of pain. I immediately requested a new OBGYN referral from my primary care doctor the next day.
--------------
Thank you for the opportunity to provide feedback about Dr. Cyd Williams. While my first appointment in January was a good appointment, I am writing to give feedback about my appointment in February 2021.
At the end of my January appointment, Dr. Cyd Williams proposed treatment for a future appointment. She determined that a sonogram would be needed to check the concerns that I had. She described that the appointment would be uncomfortable. Before leaving, she prescribed medication for me to take the night before the February appointment to help manage any pain I may feel.
When I arrived for my appointment on February, things were quite different than they were described to me. The nurse that took me into the exam room shared information about what would happen during the appointment. What she shared seemed to be similar to the information that Dr. Williams provided during my January appointment. However as I looked around the room and noticed the different tools that were set up. I realized that there was more to the appointment than I was aware of. The nurse proceeded with the sonogram portion of the appointment then I waited for the doctor.
When the doctor arrived I let her know that I took the medication the night before to assist with pain she responded by saying OK. She preceded to let me know that she will need to do another procedure to figure out what was going on. At that time I realized that the appointment was definitely going to be more painful than was described to me previously.
The doctor began the procedure and the pain was unbearable. I had a very difficult time dealing with the constant sharp pains and pressure. I could tell that she was getting very annoyed with my inability to deal with the pain (she rolled her eyes). I felt embarrassed that I wasn't more prepared for what was going to happen at the appointment. Finally I asked the doctor to stop because I was unable to take the pain. The doctor then said, This is not mandatory, you do not have to it. As she put away her tools she came back to me and rudely said, I guess you'll just have to continue with your issues until you decide to complete this procedure. She also added Maybe next time you should take a sedative before you come.
I felt very embarrassed by this situation. I was so unprepared as I was not given the appropriate information during the previous meeting to prepare for the procedure. Had I been told about the option of taking a sedative prior to the appointment, I wouldve arranged to have someone drive me there. The doctor made me feel as if I wasted her time with her comments, tone, and facial expressions.
Once the doctor exited the room the nurse helped me calm down as I was still in a lot of pain. I was dizzy and was on the verge of a vertigo spell so the nurse gave me juice and I continued to lay in the exam room. I left after laying there for 15 minutes or so.
This appointment was one of the worst experiences Ive had with a doctor. As an African American female it was important for me to have an African American OBGYN in hopes of finding someone I could connect with, be able to trust with my health, and that would acknowledge and understand when Im in pain. In this case I was very disappointed by the service that I received from the doctor. The next day I reached out to my primary care doctor to request a new referral for an OBGYN in the Piedmont Health Care system.
