Videoing the Fairview II floor plan, which doubled as the sales office a future homeowner arrived. They had driven nearly ten hours to get there, undoubtedly exhausted, especially traveling with kids with the expectation, they would be sleeping in their new home tonight. However, what happened next they could have never imagined. Their home wasn't ready😳 The closing would not be today or tomorrow, they were told. This was a mess, and I felt terrible for the homebuyers and the agent delivering the news. Can you imagine? Yet, what was impressive was within an hour, the sales manager of Meritage Homes arrived. She was empathetic and listened attentively and patiently to the client. A COE or Certificate of Occupancy is required on all new construction homes before keys can be released. When the inspector came out this time, he called for a fire escape to be added to the two-story home before he would issue that coveted document. What the heck? This was something any builder could not have anticipated. How many fire escapes have you seen on Two-story homes? I am a seasoned agent and have had the pleasure of helping hundreds of individuals, families, and corporations purchase or liquidate new homes and resale homes. As a REALTOR® for over three decades in California, Nevada, and Georiga, adding a fire escape as a requirement to close is foreign to me. Thus, I understood the builder's and the buyer's predicament. What I liked most was the way the builder handled the client. The buyer was disappointed and frustrated, and they had every right to feel that way. The sales manager could not give the homebuyers the keys, but she did the next best thing, she dropped what she was doing, drove across town, and gave the homebuyer the right to be heard. She then asked the homebuyer how Meritage Homes could help make a bad situation better; that was classy. Kudos to you, Meritage, for showing how much the client means to you. Unfortunately, there will always be situations that arise during the building stage. Sometimes there will be delays, obstructions, and postponements exceeding the control of the builder. It is good to know Meritage Homes is there every step of the way. Good Job, Meritage. Sincerely, Crystal Johnson, REALTOR® KW Realty Consultants
