image Avoid! Avoid! Avoid!Initially we felt great about our doors. They were very, very expensive but I felt like we had made a premium purchase. Then over time, the paint and finish begin to weather. Much more rapidly than I would have ever thought. These jack-wagons want $1,150 to refinish the doors.Completely bogus. It's not a premium product, just a premium price. And they've got you by the short hairs since it is a completely custom door. We may have signed up for a vicious cycle here. Man, I'm mad!

image Ordered iron doors from Tom Scardino 5 1/2 months ago. No delivery of doors and very inadequate communication.  Gives installation date and then doesn't show up. Doesn't respond to builders phone calls or e-mails. Contacting BBB and lawyer today for resolution. Very poor business practices. Our builder is using Scardino for another client and they report multiple problems with that order also. Our house move in date has been delayed because we can't move in without a front door. Do not recommend!!

image I decided to use the Scardino team to build and install windows for my Atlanta facility restaurant - it was a splurge for our project as their prices are high. But I wanted to support a local company and the catalogs and product photos were impressive. Owners Tom and Holly personally came out to visit and inspect the opening for windows, and I requested their installer come inspect the opening as well so there was a seamless installation - no surprises. They assured me that this was a straightforward job and the install would be well finished. The installer separately came to inspect and we paid a deposit to move forward. After months of delays the windows finally arrived. They insisted payment in full before installation and cited the contract. I paid. The installer came and my team called me in a panic because the suspended windows were too heavy for the install and needed additional supports to be built. They were afraid the windows would rip the header out. I spoke to Tom and Holly and they said the installer wasn't their employee, just a contract worker. They said to go ahead with the original plan (which now seemed alarmingly unsafe) or maybe I should add some 2x4s for extra support if needed and go hire a contractor to come cover them up with sheetrock. I was completely stunned.  Red flags everywhere, and now the day was spent after the late arrival and confusion of the installer. Instead of understanding my position they got irritated and told me how busy they were, and that I should read the fine print of my contract. They told me I should hire an engineer too. All of these extra demands were a total shock to me. They had promised a beautiful finish and install. And I had already paid in full. The windows couldn't be installed so they went back to the facility. It took months to re-schedule - they said they would come to site. I expected they knew the product and would be experts.  Then Tom and Holly stopped answering the phone, cancelled install dates, and I didn't even have my fully paid for property. They told me I had to sign *new* extra waivers if I wanted an install and pay an extra $250 on top of the thousands I had already given them. I just wanted my windows in without involving a lawyer, so I went along and finally (after a couple more re-scheduled attempts) an entirely different subcontracted installer shows up with my windows. Tom and Holly didn't come. In the end, I was left with a quarter inch gap and four wooden 2x6 cuts propping up the windows so they didn't fall. Disgraceful. No apparent expertise. Dangerous install. Months of delays. Surprise contracts and fees AFTER full payment and a shocking and complete lack of customer service once the money changed hands. About 11 months to execute this botched project, and I was left with a completely unfinished space to figure out on my own. I should have read their yelp reviews - it seems this is their normal. Shame on me for not doing my research. These people are completely untrustworthy. Buyer Beware

image WORST ever!!!  They totally ruined my iron door and now won't even fix it or compensate for the damage. Even after measuring the door opening 3 times they made the door different shape and had to cut out bunch of my trim and stucco to fit the door in. Now I am left with damaged trim and damaged stucco which will cost me additional $5k to fix. Tom scardino refuses to even acknowledge the issue. Terrible terrible ppl and service. I am so upset and hope no one uses them again because I wouldn't want anyone to go through what we did. Pics to prove the damage. You can see before pic (1st pic) of the original door and trim shape and how they cut out all of my high end trim to fit the door in. Now I have to re-make all the trim surrounding the door due to their negligence. You can also see how they have left random holes all around door with no screw covers.

image I hired Scardino Doors to provide a custom door with sidelights in my loft. I chose them because they offered to provide "turn-key" service meaning they would demolish/remove the existing door and install the new door without me having to hire other contractors to complete the work. On the positive side, the initial discussions, ordering process, CAD drawings, etc. were well done. When the door was finally ready to be installed, the trouble began. Their contractor showed up late (no big deal) but was completely unprepared for the job. It was evident that Scardino Doors had not prepared them for any of the specifics of my project. They did not know that my door was on the 3rd floor of the building. They did not know that the door was being installed in a brick and concrete wall/opening. They did not know the construction of the existing door and windows that needed to be removed. All of this was in spite of my extensive on-site meeting with Jason while he took field measurements. We discussed all of the specifics and peculiarities of my door and he failed to pass anything on to his installing contractor. The installing contractor loaded the materials into my loft and had to leave and reschedule the installation because of time constraints (showing up late and having to move material up to the third floor took up all of their time). Fortunately we were able to get them back two days later. So they showed up on the rescheduled date and worked very hard to get the old door/windows removed. Once they had the rough opening finally prepped it became evident that the field measurements and dimensions of my new door and sidelights were not correct for my opening. Jason left zero margin in the horizontal (side-to-side) dimension of the overall assembly and actually sized the door frame and door to be 1/2" larger than the opening. This required the installing contractor to have to sawcut, drill, and chip concrete and brick to adjust the opening. They were very conscientious, using a shop vac that I provided, to limit the dust but inevitably my entire condo was blanketed in a thin layer of red brick dust. All of the extra work would have been completely unnecessary if the existing opening was properly measured by Jason.Once the door/sidelights were finally installed they ran out of caulk and the door hardware was not functioning properly. I had to schedule a return visit to finish those items and provide caps for the anchors (which were not provided to the installer for their initial visit). On the exterior of the door there was additional work required to close gaps and keep rain out of my condo. I had to pay another contractor $450 to weld a steel plate across the top of the opening to close the gap and weatherproof the installation. When I informed Holly that the door had been improperly dimensioned for the opening she responded that I had "decided to use no trim which is why the unit itself was so tight to the outside structure/material. This is the reason for little to no wiggle room". This makes no sense whatsoever. It is industry standard to size the door 1/2" smaller than the rough opening to allow a 1/4" caulk joint on both sides. As a last final punch in the nose, I realized a couple weeks later that the installing contractor had used 2 different types of caulk around the outside of the door. Most of the caulk they used was appropriate (white paintable caulk) but for about 8 feet they used clear silicone caulk. It's not paintable and, making matters worse, it is CLEAR meaning that you can see the insulation/great-stuff behind the caulk. The door itself is very high quality and it looks great despite the completely ridiculous amount of unneeded headaches induced along the way. The quality of the door is probably the only good thing I can say about Scardino Doors. It's too bad there are so few companies in Atlanta that can do true custom steel doors/windows because anyone with some common sense would run circles around Scardino Doors.
