Applied last year for a young sheltie. I was looking for a new agility partner for a while and decided to rescue this time around. We are a very active dog home that competes in agility, dock diving, Fast CAT, and barn hunt. We also love hiking. Needless to say this sheltie would have been spoiled and loved to no end. However, we were denied because we have an 8 year old sheltie in the home, and she said a young sheltie would be “too much” for him because of his age. My 8 year old is extremely active and high energy that keeps up just fine with my other dogs. So, so weird. Not sure what a qualifying home would be if ours wasn’t it. But okay.

Barbara is careful to make certain that Shelties who have been abandoned or rescued are truly placed in their forever homes. She and the people who foster the dogs love them and definitely care about their well-being. They spay/neuter the animals, get them vet care and get them current on their shots. We got our puppy at a foster home from Karen, who genuinely loved him and the handful of Shelties who share her home. What a kind, gentle and caring person! She has kept in contact with us to see how he is doing. We have had him for about a month. They will insist on obedience classes if the dog has issues, which many of them do. Our pup is 9 months old and had little if any behavior corrections in his early life, which makes him difficult. (Hey, he was surrendered for a reason.) But he is a Sheltie and is especially bright and energetic and we love him and his personality. We are willing to train him properly. If you are looking to adopt from this group, you have to realize that Barbara is especially busy, as she evaluates and fosters dogs as well as handling the paperwork. You need to be vocal and persistent and realize that they may not have the right dog for you at this time. There’s little worse than a poorly placed dog, because these dogs have already been removed from their home at least once - to not find the right home would be heartbreaking. They look at so many factors in proper placement that I’d be surprised if they ever have a dog returned. I’m so glad that this group is available and has the heart it does for the breed. We’re looking to adopt a young female to help our pup burn off some energy and feel fully at home. Thanks to Barbara and Karen for their hard work!
