I had a beautiful platinum ring that I had purchased at Genna jewelers. it was all diamonds but the Centerstone was a cubic zirconia and I was waiting to find the perfect stone to put in the center. I went in Oceanside jewelers and I stumbled upon a huge 5 carat aquamarine. The owner was eager to sell it to me and he suggested that I put it inside my platinum ring. I thought it would be too big of a stone but he said he could have prongs that came out from the face of the ring and it would look magnificent. I paid almost $5000 for an aquamarine and he sent it out to have it mounted. When the rain came back I noticed that it was all black underneath and it wasnt smooth they had use some kind of a laser or something to cut it but the big stone covered that so I didnt pay too much attention and I wore it to my daughters sixth grade graduation. When I got back in my car after about an hour and a half and I looked at my hand in the stone was gone. I rushed back and I was able to find the stone laying on the floor. One of the mothers joked and said good thing you found it because we wouldve thought it was some Jewel from the kids art project and thrown it away. That was the first clue that something was wrong. I went Back to Oceanside jewelers and spoke with the owner hes an elderly man approximately 77 years of age and he insisted that the ring and the stone fell out because I was too rough and that he was not going to reimburse it or repair it. I said you think Im too rough? And he screamed at me and said yes get out of my store Im not giving you your money back and I left in tears. This was literally three hours after I had pick the ring up. I knew something was wrong so I went across the bridge to Don Travers office and he tested the Stone and setting. He said the reason why the stone fell out was because they used 14 karat gold instead of platinum to mount The aquamarine to a platinum ring. The the owner of Oceanside had insisted over and over that it was going to be platinum just like the ring and that it was platinum and he basically lied. Don Traver from my private jewelers he is now deceased called Oceanside jewelers and said this is not platinum whoever you had set the stone did not use platinum. The owner of Oceanside jewelers said bring it back and Ill test it myself. so I went across the causeway and the old man at Oceanside jewelers returned the money that I had paid for the stone and to have it set but he never offered to fix my ring. I didnt even think to ask him. Until I went to Genna jewelers and they told me that in order to restore it to its original state it was gonna cost $5000. according to Genna jewelers who initially made the ring for me from a mold the only way to repair this ring would be to remove all of the diamonds and re-mold it. This will cost $5000. I contacted Oceanside jewelry and they have ignored my phone calls. So they took a ring they ruined it and then they never returned it back to its original state. He never offered to fix it. Im just letting you know if you do business with him or anybody in that store including his daughter and wife who knew about the situation but never intervened buyer bewareand they also said the stone that I bought was a low quality stone. I overpaid. I have since contacted Oceanside jewelers to ask them if they would repair the ring to its original state or give me money towards the repair and they have ignored my phone calls and emails. Do not Do business with them!

Business Response on Google Feb 14th, 2021
Customer, Ms. Laurie Ho, purchased the large rectangular-shaped aquamarine from us on May 23, 2017 (over three years ago). She wanted us to replace her ring’s three small, round, synthetic center stones with this larger, genuine aquamarine; a good choice in our opinion. It was a difficult, labor-intensive assignment, but we successfully accomplished it. When she picked up the completed ring she seemed pleased with the result, and so were we.A few days later she returned with the ring, but the aquamarine was unset. Our microscopic examination showed that one of the new prongs had been sheared off. The goldsmith whom had done the work remarked that the ring showed evidence of hard wear. We replaced the missing prong and reset the aquamarine free of charge, advising her to remove the ring prior to engaging in any future activities that might damage it.On August 9, 2017 (nearly three months later) she returned. This time part of the support gallery for the aquamarine had been broken. Upon informing her there would be a charge for this repair she became upset and left with the ring. She came back later and wanted to return the aquamarine and get a full refund for everything because we had used white gold instead of platinum for the work we had done.Although not a common practice, white gold is sometimes used for repairs and modifications to platinum jewelry in order to reduce costs, but mainly to avoid the extreme temperatures required for welding platinum, which causes ultraviolet emissions that are capable of permanently damaging eyesight. We acknowledged our use of white gold and gave her a full refund for everything; the aquamarine, design costs, labor, and materials. She left appearing totally satisfied. The “damage” she now refers to is the modification we had to make to accommodate the large aquamarine. She paid $2,475 for the gemstone, not $5,000 as she states. The aquamarine actually weighs 7.07 carats, not the smaller 5 carats she claims. Contrary to her narrative, all verbal exchanges by her and us occurred without harsh words or raised voices by either party. She now calls the aquamarine “low quality,” even though she repeatedly commented on its beauty when she purchased it; we still have the gemstone, and invite you to come in and see it for yourself before passing judgment on our merchandise or on us.More than three years have now passed. After being closed all of June, July, August, and September for Covid 19, we reopened (September 29th) and were made aware of her latest demand. We’ve received none of the emails she claims to have sent, and aside from this review, only one phone message that we found on our store voicemail wherein she states that she will remove the above negative review in exchange for a payment of $5,000.We’ve contacted her by phone and cordially invited her to come in and discuss resetting the aquamarine back into the ring for which it was modified.
