Recently had my taxes done by AARP folks who also assisted last year. Located at the annex attached to library, these tax experts are as knowledgeable and highly efficient as paying a private CPA. Waiting inside the library , I replaced a lost card and spoke with the librarians, who are extremely well versed in all library protocols. Perusing the DVD section, I was more than pleased to see films of our island, a diverse and rare bioregion. The librarians are very kind in helping find what I could not. Do support this local branch, as many find information, support in local resource material, and community events.

PARENTS BEWARE: The children's section of this library is stocked with a picture book (aimed at small children), introducing nonbinary characters (part of the transgender movement) and introduces the use of the pronoun "they" instead of he/she. Branch manager Caitlin Cerise, is particularly proud of having the book in the collection. We were literally yelled at by a library board member at an advisory meeting when we questioned whether young children should be introduced to such material (the book has no mention in it's description that such topics are included within, which could help parents decide beforehand if they are prepared to teach these topics or if their little ones are prepared to learn them). The Walton Co library system is clearly in need of funding. Each branch is very small, dated, and selections are severely limited. Why, with so little resources available to them, does the library staff feel the need to choose books like this, instead of selections that better reflect interests of the local community? We are new to the area and have previously only lived in and around large cities with beautiful libraries containing robust offerings and creative/fun programming, so we can't help being disappointed with the Walton Co library. The county itself has an abundance of resources- there is a lot of money in this area of NW FL. It makes you wonder why the library seems to be so lacking. Perhaps there is a disconnect somewhere. Also worth mentioning- the Walton-Defuniak library, housed in a charming historic home, is apparently infested with bats at the moment. Not only creepy, but possibly a health hazard??
