Poor presentation, average fried food. Dirty and small salad bar. Eat at you own risk

Roy's is one of my favorite restaurants around. The people are so nice, food is delicious, and I was impressed with their safety measures during this pandemic I felt totally safe and wore out masks in-between our courses and we were still able to talk and have a good time. The butterfish is amazing I get it every time.

Took the family out for a treat on a Saturday night – 6 adults and 4 children aged 2 to 7. Reservation was for 6:15. We were seated quickly and greeted by our server. The place was basically empty. Waiter took our orders for drinks and appetizers. They were good, and the dinners came out shortly after we ordered. Appetizer dishes were not removed – we had to pile the dishes in the center of the table to make room for the dinner plates. Everyone was happy with their food. Waiter checked in and asked if we wanted to pre-order their specialty desserts, chocolate soufflé or pineapple upside down cake and took a couple of the piles of plates away, not all of them. We ordered two soufflés and one pineapple cake. People were slowly coming in and the restaurant was about 75% full by this time. After eating, it became clear the waiter was quite overwhelmed. No water glasses refilled, no dishes removed. After finishing our meals we sat for at least 30 minutes, waiting for dishes to be removed and dessert orders taken. I said to my husband someone needs to be made aware of this situation and he said he had already spoken to the manager unbeknownst to me. After sitting for another 15 – 20 minutes my patience was gone! I got up and went to the front of the restaurant and the manager was standing there casually chatting with the hostess at the entrance podium, totally oblivious to the chaos going on behind him! I told him my husband had already spoken to him about our unacceptable service and the situation had still not improved and dessert orders had not been taken. Luckily I had brought coloring books for the children so they were happy and occupied. He said he would take care of it and immediately took off inside the kitchen – no explanation, no apology. As I looked around the room I noticed many tables with used dishes piled up on tables and a couple of waiters racing around. By this time it was after 8:00. About 10 minutes later 4 children’s sundaes arrived and were placed in front of the children (no one even asked if that was what they wanted). Someone assumed they all wanted sundaes even though fruit was another choice on the children’s menu and two of the children had wanted that. They quietly accepted the sundaes and ate them. What if one of them had a dietary restriction?!! Finally the pineapple cake and soufflés arrived. One had been ordered without the raspberry sauce. Unfortunately, both came out with the sauce, so they said they would have to make another and that would take about 15 minutes. The waiter never asked if anyone else wanted a dessert, coffee or an after dinner drink (lost revenue)! Forget refilling water glasses, clearing the remaining dinner dishes or cleaning the spilled rice on several areas of the tablecloth, something that is usually done in “nice restaurants.†That was beyond expectations! It was obvious the waiter had way too many tables and was completely unable to handle everything. Never saw the manager after I spoke to him. When the check arrived, the late soufflé was “comped†and a $40 credit was given. When the waiter picked up the check he said, “Come back again soon!†I don’t know if he was being sarcastic or really thought we would come back. At no time was the place completely full – on a Saturday night! That tells you something! Three plus hours for a dinner with small children is not acceptable. A leisurely dinner for adults is another story. My husband and I have visited nice restaurants all over the world in our 50 years together. We both agreed that we have never had such terrible service. We don’t mind paying for expensive dinners, but we expect good, efficient service. We did not get this at Roy’s. Having good food is only half of the equation, and unfortunately Roy’s will no longer be on our list of “good†restaurants.
