If I could give this place a negative stars rating I would. The customer is always wrong seems to be the approach. My sister and I and her friend walked into this restaurant, which is adjacent to the Coastland Mall, on Sunday December 18. The food court was packed, but there were only a few people in Calistoga. There were three employees total for a restaurant the size of a Panera, which seemed odd. We ordered from Liz, and while waiting for our food, walked over to the beverage fountain for our drinks. The fountain counter was a mess, with dirty wet rags and an open wet and filthy door on the storage cupboard below. I began wondering if we might have made a mistake coming here. As we went to find a table, it became apparent there were no clean ones to be had. Most were dirty, and many were cover with dirty dishes from previous diners. The counters meant for returning your dishes and trays were loaded up with dirty dishes and trays that looked like they had been there for a while. I began to be seriously worried about the cleanliness of this place. While I waited, Liz told my sister, who had ordered and paid for Latte, (in cash with no receipt given) that the machine was broken. Did she want something else or a refund? My sister asked for a refund and Liz reached into her tip cup. I asked her why she was doing that. "I've only been here a week and I don't know how to do refunds on the register" was her reply. I asked if she had been doing all of the refunds that way and she began to tear up. She said "yes because its the only way I can". I told her to stop and asked for the owners contact info. She was new and didn't know it, so she walked back to the young man-Matt- in the prep area and spoke to him. Before I know it, Matt is standing in front of me asking me what my problem is. VERY CONFRONTATIONAL. I explained calmly that I just wanted to share some feedback on my observations with the owner. This was his reply: "This is a free country. You don't have to eat here. Please leave". I was stunned. I said that's fine, but I would like to get a refund on my meal, which I hadn't touched. His reply: "I'm busy now and I'll get to it when I can". In the meantime, our friend, who had ordered a grilled ham and cheese, discovered the order was wrong, and asked for the correct sandwich. While I waited for my refund, Matt glanced over at me several times, as if waiting for me to give up and leave. He must have decided to intimidate me into leaving because he called Mall Security. I calmly explained my situation and she waited a while with me bit he never reappeared from behind the counter. I left and returned the next day as I was told the owner would be in at 2. Thwre were 2 other women a.t thw counter, so i llet them know i was hoping to speak to the owner briefly whe he arived. They told me his name was Troy and promised to let him know. I gave them my name and number and sat down and quietly waited . I saw a man walk in who looked like an owner. Next thing i know, the same Mall Security guard walked over to tell me the police had been called. Once again I was stunned. How had a simple request for the owners contact info escalated into a police matter? She assured me that she told the police I was nothing but polite and patient yesterday as she observed me talking to Liz the day before. Troy came over and refused to hear me out, saying he had called the police to have me escorted out and to file a complaint saying I wasn't permitted back in. I can assure you that won't be a problem.i asked him to process my refund and he refused. I have owned a restaurant worked in the food business and know many fine chefs and owners. This behaviour is inconceivable to me. I saw some potential issues that concerned me a guest, and my intent was to voice those to the owner or manager quietly and professionaly. Instead I am treated like a criminal and with no courtesy or respect. Had I been permitted to express my concerns professionally, you would never have seen this review.

Something happened here.. this used to be one of my favorite lunch places, but this last time I ate here, it was like a completely different restaurant.. the menu changed, it was hot and stuffy, food we ordered was stale and not correct- it was as if ownership changed and the new owner doesn't give a crap.. also, this place used to be packed, and we were one of two couples there..

We enjoy the outside seating while eating wonderful sandwiches at this nice cafe. I particularly like the Helena Roast Beef and my wife enjoys the chili with any half sandwich. Nice decor and way better than any other place in the food court area of the Coastland Mall. It is also a coffee shop but usually we are there for lunch not coffee. Parking is just outside the door if you know how to find it.
