My father served in the Air Force during Vietnam and passed away on September 6th, 2021 at the age of 72. My mother and I are so happy that we chose his final resting place to be at the Cape Canaveral National Cemetary. We have to thank my Dad as he had planted the seed about a year ago when he was completely healthy. He wanted to save as much money as he could for my Mom. We had no idea how soon we would need to honor his wishes. The setting and grounds are just beautiful! My Dad was in the Landscaping business for over 30 years for company's like Walt Disney World, upscale home developers, and municipalities. He will feel right at home with the lush landscaping, palm trees, hardscaping and monuments here at CCNC. We almost chose a local cemetery closer to home (Sanford, Florida) but the grounds were not well maintained, full of sand (not grass) and EXPENSIVE. We knew in our hearts that he wouldn't want that. The burial ceremony is short (only 30 minutes) but the folding and presenting of the flag was so captivating, honorable and poignant. They also played taps and we asked for a gun salute. They gave the empty shell casings to my Mom and several certificates signed by the President of the United States to honor his service to our country. I would like to say a special thank you to a wonderful volunteer at the cemetery named Diane (same name as me!) who was so sweet and helpful to me on the phone when I first called to get information. She also just happened to answer the phone 2 months later when I checked to see if my Dad's grave marker was there yet. She even remembered me! This is sacred ground for our American heroes and my Dad will always be a hero to me. If your relative is a veteran, I can't think of a better place to honor them alongside their fellow servicemen and women. God Bless Charles E. Frantzen 1949 - 2021. He is forever in our hearts.
