My mom was diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer, and my siblings had been the ones going to see him prior to visits. I don't live in the same city but came to see my mom as she was not well and had to go see this doctor. I must say my experience was the worse experience; this doctor was rude, showed no sympathy and had the worse bed side manners. I am all for a doctor being honest but when you are with your patient and her children you don't walk in and state," you mom should be dead" then ask nothing has been done? If I am correct you are her oncologist isn't that your job to advise us our options, tell us what we have to face, help prescribe her medication to ease her pain and give us referrals to hospice if that is our last option? Well this doctor when I asked ok based on all the CT Scans and the latest from the hospital can you tell us how much mom has left. His response was, I don't have a crystal ball that will tell me when your mom will die and like I stated when you walk in based on what she has she should be dead". So you cannot tell me how much time but you are saying she should be dead??? How does that make sense? Then retract on everything you previously had told my siblings prior, where my own sibling stated, that is not what you told us and his heart was broken. If you thought that day she should have been dead based on her condition shouldn't that urgency have been stated when you saw her prior? I had about 9 questions to ask this doctor and I started with ok can you please provide us with a prescription for her pain he said no Jackson Memorial can do that... I said can you give us a referral for hospice and he said no Jackson Memorial can do that? Again aren't you her specialist the person that is supposed to make her feel better and help us as a family deal with this? Where is the compassion for a human life...? Also since he would not help us with referrals or prescription part of me feels that he was trying to wipe his hands clean of his wrong doing considering her condition was so severe and he failed to have urgency back when he saw the first CT Scan which already showed a metastasis. Then on our way out as I walked out crying and my other sibling went to pay the bill ... he took the chart to the front receptionist and she asked, when should I scheduled her next flow up... his response was as cold as anything I have ever heard, NO NEED SHE WILL NOT BE RETURNING, THIS IS HER LAST.
I understand you have been doing this job for 44 years but perhaps since you have no compassion for a family who is dealing with terminal cancer and they are losing a parent you should consider RETIRING from this practice because YOU HAVE LOST ALL compassion for human life and NO ONE DESERVES TO BE TREATED THE WAY WE WERE.
I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND ANYONE TO THIS DOCTOR.
