These guys were recommended to me by a friend who uses them regularly. We have the same size boat (31 feet), and he told me that they charge him $100 for a bottom cleaning. I had more growth than usual on the bottom of mine, so I figured they'd probably charge a bit more, say $130 or $150. That would have been pricey, especially since there are plenty of people in Fort Lauderdale who will do a boat scraping for $2-3 per foot of length, but I had limited time to research other options and I figured it was safer to go with someone who was personally recommended. Well, Juan-Carlos showed up and declared that he couldn't do my hull without breaking out the pressure washer and he'd have to charge me $300 for it. That was an outrageous price, and if I hadn't been in a hurry I'd have told him to take a hike, but I was in one of those situations where you have to trade money for time. He realized that and completely took advantage of my situation. The actual cleaning took only 20-30 minutes. Afterwards, Juan-Carlos informed me that they hadn't even bothered to clean the bottom of the keel because the boat had been resting on the bottom of the canal at the time--it was low tide. I had specifically notified him in advance that it touched bottom at low tide and asked him to come at high tide to ensure that there would be no problems with access to the keel. Instead, he chose to come at a time when he could make excuses and get away with doing a partial job. I thought that for $300 he'd at least make an effort to get all of the boat clean. Nope. After they'd gone, I looked down at my rudder and realized that they had somehow power-washed or chiseled through four underlying layers of paint on the rudder down to the bare fiberglass in places. Now I'm worried about the integrity of my hull.
These guys grossly overcharged me for an incomplete job and damaged my boat in the process. Do yourself a favor and don't hire them. Service: Boat cleaning
