I brought my wife to Haven Hospice and my Sweetie which had breast cancer 4th stage. I tried to talk her out of going but she thought they would help her. Instead we had the worst experience. When we first arrived my Wife was in horrible pain. She ask for some pain medicine and told them her pain level was an 8 out 10. 2 hours later she still had no pain medicine. SAD. For the next 3 days my Wife was not bathed. She threw up and I help her clean it with towels 3 days later towels were still there. After the 3rd day with no compassion I had , had ENOUGH! when I got her home I noticed a large bruise on her leg which was not there before we arrived. This place looks good from the outside but if you love your loved ones DO NOT GO TO THIS HORRIBLE PLACE OF A DEATH TRAP. All they do in the name of making them comfortable is dope them up on so many drugs THEY JUST DIE. 3 days later after I took her out of this horrible place my Wife passed away.

It should be Zero Stars I am finally emotionally ready to write this. Since I had a previous bad experience with hospice I was skeptical in acquiring the services from Haven Hospice. During my interview with their administration I expressed my concerns and bad experience with the previous provider. I wanted to make sure that my mom’s medications were not going to be stopped. In the past I acquired the services of another Hospice entity as recommended by the nursing home medical staff. My mom’s conditions worsen and her dementia symptoms got completely out of control. After many meeting and my own research I discovered that per hospice recommendations, my mother’s medications for dementia, heart and blood pressure were suspended. Needless to say I went frantic. I met with the medical staff and hospice and did not receive a logical explanation. Right after the meeting my mom’s medication was immediately reestablished. During the meeting I stopped the services from hospice. Now 3 years later, I find myself in the same predicament. My mother suffered a heart attack. As my mom’s health continued to deteriorate the doctor recommended initiating hospice care. With skepticism I interviewed the 3 companies available in the area. Heaven Hospice was very responsive unlike the other entities. They seem to offer the care my mother required and appeared companionate to what we, the family, was going through. My sister and I took turns to make sure my mother was not alone and to provide help to the nursing home staff and heaven hospice. At first they were responsive and made sure that I was part of the decision making including any changes in her medication. The nurse visitation were once a week. At times they were too quick to recommend the removal of medication; however those issues were quickly resolved. When my mom’s condition worsens and it required continuous care (24 hour care) Heaven Hospice failed to provide the service or the compassion they claim in their mission, vision and core value statements. It was very difficult for the Heaven Hospice to keep a nurse to stay with my mother “under the continuous care”. I spend the last two weeks of my mother’s life under intense pressure assuring they met they kept their part of the bargain. I will find out that my mother would not have a nurse presence when they did not show. We did not get calls advising us that they were unable to get a nurse. We were exposed to the nurse phone conversations referring to our mother in an unprofessional manner such as she has not “expired” yet or “Oh yea, she still here”. In one instance I had to call their headquarters due for not providing the service they getting pay for, “keeping a nurse on site”. After that incident the arrogance and attitude from the care manager was unbelievable. Unfortunately I did not have the time to bewail my mother’s last days because I was in constant battle with this company. To make matters worse I received a call the morning that my mother died from the Manager asking me “How can I help you”. I understand you call our HQ with a concern. These are just a few of the incidents I encountered. Unfortunately Hospice has become a multimillion dollar business and is not about compassion is all about money. My advice is for everyone to stay vigilant on hospice services and stay away from Heaven Hospice.
