image Now hear me out on this one. My wife and I really enjoyed our stay at St. Gregory Hotel this weekend. The room was great, the cafe and restaurant were wonderful, and the staff was very friendly and helpful. We loved Marco, the valet...he was probably our favorite. The only reason I don't give 5 stars across the boards is this: we arrived at 11:30am, which is a few hours early before check in. The front desk personnel told us that we were in luck, and that our room was ready and we could check in early. We were delighted, so to have to avoid checking in bags and returning later. BUT, that said, the hotel CHARGED us an extra $25 to check in early! Even though the room was ready, and there were no prior guests using our room, they told us that going up early to the room would be an extra fee. In addition, there is no statement of this policy on their website. It's almost like, well, if you wanna check in early, you gotta pay more. (Ridiculous). In all my hotel stays, from the west coast, to the east, I have NEVER heard of such a policy. In fact, my wife and I both found it rather 'unwelcoming.' Most hotels extend the early check-in to guests as a courtesy, and as a way of saying, 'we are thrilled you are here, lets get you in now.' I spoke to the night manager after dinner, as it wasn't sitting right with me. He said he would check with his manager, but it was a company policy. So in the morning after our stay, I spoke to the original front desk manager that helped us. He TOO told me there was nothing he could do about it, and that it was policy. Well, St. Gregory, from a grateful customer, you might want to think about changing that policy, as it really is a bit of a turn off. We will return to visit and stay at the hotel, but I guess we'll arrive at the assigned check in time, next time. Thanks for a nice stay and hospitality, but I really think the manager could have offered to remove that $25 fee as a courtesy. That would have sealed a 5-star rating.
Rooms: Clean and comfy!
Nearby activities: Walk to lots of spots: Georgetown, Dupont, 14th corridor, even the White House.
Safety: We felt very safe for our stay.
Walkability: Oh, boy did we walk a lot.
Food & drinks: Great coffee and croissants in the morning! Very tasty.

image Good location, flashy lobby. Disappointing rooms.
Lobby is decorated by somebody with a good eye for mid-century modern. Comfy, nicely upholstered chairs and couches. Water jug with sliced citrus. Gaslog fireplace and nice views onto M Street.
The hotel rooms are spartan and dated. That's fine, you get what you pay for. But inattentive housekeeping made for a disappointing stay.
Room had no ironing board. Hotel took 20 minutes to locate one, too late to be of use.
Kleenex box on the bathroom sink contained damp tissues.
The bed listed 5-10 degrees to one side. Had to sleep facing uphill to avoid rolling off. Tilt was noticeable when standing at the bed end. A big miss by housekeeping.
Was awakened Sunday at 6am by alarm clock, set by the previous guest. Housekeeping should really check this sort of thing when readying in the room.
Relayed my experiences to the front desk upon checkout. Clerk was sympathetic but not exactly apologetic. Don't think I would stay here again.

image My boyfriend and I went on a northeastern road trip and our first stop was the St. Gregory hotel in DC. Our stay was recommended by my sister who had previously lived here and also stayed at the hotel. We were greeted kindly by the hotel staff every time we entered and there was fruit infused water and fruit available every day. Our room was beyond expectations, very clean, comfortable, and luxurious. We were able to connect to WiFi and cast shows on the TV from our devices. Each night we made a pit stop in the hotel bar to have a drink before going out to dinner and even the drinks and service at the bar were superb. The hotel was only a 10-15 minute walk from the metro station and we were able to walk there when we were tired but we also walked all the way to the national mall and it was not a bad walk at all. The hotel is also not a bad walk from Georgetown and therefore I would say is very well located.
The cost of the hotel was worth every penny. I already cant wait to come back here and will be recommending to any of my friends and family visiting the area.
Rooms: The rooms were very clean, comfortable, and luxurious. We were provided with everything we needed and had a sitting area, two tvs, and a mini fridge.
Safety: We felt very safe at the hotel and in the area. The hotel is well staffed with someone always at the front desk and we walked almost everywhere while in DC and did not have any issues or concern with the location.
Walkability: The metro was only a 10-15 minute walk to either Dupont station or Farragut station. We also ate at wonderful restaurants within walking distance and had delicious coffee nearby at Tatte.
Food & drinks: We had a cocktail both nights at the hotel before going out for dinner. Both of us agreed the cocktails we had were very good and the service at the bar was excellent.
