I handle my father's bills and am authorized on his account, and during a previous hospitalization, he was able to suspend the policy so we were only paying a small fee per month to keep it in place with no lapse of coverage. I called again today to see if we could do the same, and the person I spoke to was rude. I was just trying to explain what we had done in the past, and she wouldn't let me finish. When I was able to try to explain in more detail, her attitude was just very condescending in my opinion. So in frustration I just said I would contact the Nationwide customer service and hung up. Nationwide customer service advised me of another option about a mile based program. Also, in the response I got back from Nationwide customer service, they said that the agent request that we handle all business through the agent themselves.
I am not calling back and risking talking to that person again. Also, does this mean that if I'm not available during Muncie's business hours, I can't do anything on the account while other Nationwide customers with different agents can do so? A little empathy, understanding, courtesy, and recognizing a customer's needs would go a long way in keeping satisfied customers.
Admittedly, my first impressions when the person answered the phone were quite negative considering I couldn't even understand what she was saying. I don't know what her name is. Just an overall horrible experience with just trying to explain what we needed, get some information. But when someone starts a phone call negatively, it goes throughout the whole phone call. I'm very thankful that years ago I changed from Nationwide for my own personal insurance, but if I hadn't, I would be changing now after this.
