This past weekend, ten of us went out for a birthday dinner and celebration and decided to go to Dragonfly since the birthday girl lived around the corner in Stamford. It was my first time at the restaurant and I would likely not return, especially with a group. We had a lovely square table and our waitress, Lori, took our drink order and then dinner order promptly. After that, we had much difficulty getting her attention to order more drinks and waited almost 2 hours to get all of our food. While I understand that this type of restaurant serves entrees when they are ready, our dinner took about 2 hours to be served. With an 8:00 reservation, the birthday girl was starving when she only had 1 of her entrees by 9:30, especially since the entrees are quite small. I thought that the food was fairly tasty, but it was honestly difficult for me to make a fair assessment because the service was so disappointing. We spoke with the manager at the end of the evening when our bill included a 20% gratuity and we did not feel as though our waitress earned that kind of tip. The manager apologized but nothing was offered or done and our waitress proceeded to "earn" an $80 tip without earning much of it. Overall, this restaurant was overpriced and the service was very disappointing. I do not think that any one of us in the group of 10 would recommend this restaurant for a group dinner.

Dragonfly is off then main strip so it tends to be quieter. They usually have a good live jazz band playing on weekends, but you can still carry conversations. The food is a tapas mix that pretty decent. Good selection of beer on tap and the bartenders know how to make a real drink.

I had been to Dragonfly before for a couple of drinks and enjoyed the atmosphere. The decor is quite beautiful and cozy. Decided to come back and give the menu a try. Saturday night, not many people. I had the plate of small meals and to be totally honest, I had 5 small meals and not even one I liked. I had the shell steak on a stick which I almost sent back because I thought they had brought me the wrong thing. It was so over fried, that it didn't have any taste, (reason for not knowing whether chix or steak), and then the sauce that went with it and could have moistened it up a bit was just a decorative swirl on the plate, not enough to even taste. Then I had the lobster nachos which had a mixture of corn and some other ingredients. Well it was more like corn nachos, there were tiny pieces of lobster and a ton of corn. I don't like corn but ordered it because I assumed that it was an even mix. Corn is cheap so the biggest mistake a restaurant can make is trying to make something that it's not, that's just cheap. I then also had the tuna roll, basically that was an overpriced tuna roll I could have gotten across the street at Kotobuki for 1/2 the price and the quality of the tuna would have been better. I had two other small meals but I honestly can't remember what they were because it wasn't worth remembering. I spent $45 for this. It's such a shame because it's a great looking place but it's obvious that the owner does not know his market and what people are looking for. To top it off, they had live music, but they chose on a Saturday night to have this cheezy jazz group, the ones with the older female singer, and the guy who's the one man band with the ultra synthesizer, it was elevator music at it's best. For God's sake it's a Saturday night, what a HUGE turn away motivation.
