Dr Grace was a fantastic therapist and using EFT therapy she really helped me and my family out greatly! I highly recommend her trip anyone looking to fix or understand family dynamics.

My husband and I saw Dr. Grace for couples therapy about 7 years ago, and there are much better therapists for marriage counseling. My husband now tells me that he feels Dr. Grace pitted us against each other, and I agree with him. If you are looking to strengthen your relationship with your spouse, Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) is an evidence-based model with a high succes rate. My husband and I have been doing EFT with Pam Semmler who is a very skilled therapist and it has transformed our relationship for the better. Dr. Grace's approach seemed more focused on "solutions" rather than getting to the core of the emotional connection that is essential for a healthy relationship. These "solutions" helped somewhat in the short-run, but did not get to the root of what we needed. Furthermore, she encouraged my husband to avoid divulging his thoughts and feelings from me in case they would kick up strong conflict. There were times when she would have my husband write down these things so he could share them with her privately. When I expressed concern about this, and explained that it was important for us to address all issues openly so that we could build trust, she treated me with condescension. Also, there were a few times when my husband was lying during therapy sessions with Dr. Grace and when I told her I thought he was lying, she treated me as if I were wrong/overly distrusting. She supported him in his lies. After a few months of EFT therapy with Pam Semmler, my husband finally admitted to these lies and has worked to repair the damage to trust in our relationship. This would have never been possible with Dr. Grace. Let me be clear: it is never OK for a therapist to encourage couples to hide and lie to their partners. A good therapist will teach you the skills to handle conflict together, rather than avoiding it. The final straw for me was when Dr. Grace insinuated that my 7-year old son was trying to break up our marriage. Being parents brought some stress to our marriage, and my son would sometimes do the totally normal, age appropriate behavior of trying to get his way with one parent, but going to the other parent if he didn't like the first answer. But the problems between my husband and I were there before we had a child, and a good therapist should help you navigate the stress of parenting rather than blaming the child for your problems. When I tried to express my concerns to Dr. Grace about this issue, she was offended and told me she would not talk about it with me. I left that session quickly and never went back. I wish we had left her a lot sooner. My husband and I are still working to undo some of the damage caused by Dr. Grace's ineptitude. I hope this post will prevent people from wasting their time and money with her, and avoid the damaging fallout from her poor advice and behaviors.
