Montessori School of Lakewood

As an alumni and former employee of the Montessori School of Lakewood, I am hard pressed to find a more wonderful and loving environment. Throughout my life the Montessori School has been an incredible support of my education and developmental growth. I appreciate more than anything my wonderful elementary teacher who, not only cultivated my love of education, but also supported my understanding of ethics and morality. Thank you, Montessori School of Lakewood, for providing such a beautiful and passionate environment.

I observed the elementary classroom at the MSL to see if it would be a good fit for my son. I am a trained Montessori elementary teacher and have taught in traditional and Montessori schools for 9 years. Never have I seen a teacher (guide) use sarcasm in such a destructive way. Not only was she harsh, but she humiliated 2 children in front of the class. One child she called a liar. My understanding is that she also owns of the school. We were also asked to observe in primary to get a holistic view of the school. It was a warm and welcoming environment. The guide was engaged with the children giving lessons and the children were busy using materials. The children were calm and focused. Lovely. I could not forget about the elementary teacher however, and I left horrified and saddened by her lack of respect for the children and the palpable fear I felt coming from them. We will continue our search for a more authentic Montessori environment.
