As a fellow hospitality professional, I sympathize with everyone in the industry during this challenging time. However, just because we are going through something that we have never been through before does not mean that we need to forget how to think and treat others dismissively and rudely. This is what happened on a recent visit to this Caraibou Coffee. I tried to ask why they had to put my coffee in a paper cup before I poured it into my kanteen. While I understand that we need to be extra careful nowadays, if you are looking to prevent covid transmission, this is overkill. Just wash your hands? Even if we concede that we should not be touching each other’s cups, why put a lid on the paper cup when all a person is going to do is pour it into a thermos? This is a waste of money, time, and resources. The real issue was that I was completely dismissed when trying to inquire as to the reasoning behind these actions. "THIS IS OUR POLICY", was all I could get from the manager as she pointed for me to go away and take the paper cup with me to dispose of. It is disappointing to see employees in a business grab onto some policy as opposed to listening to a customer's concern. The policy is not the big issue here. Using one’s head and treating customers with some respect is.
