I had to wait a bit but the person I was assigned seemed competent.

If you get April Coleman or John Gifford, don't expect to hear from them for the duration of your case. You get what you can afford truly means that with this county.

Two experiences with these folks representing a family member. Two polar opposite degrees of professionalism. Megan Ring was AMAZING-Thomas Collins, not so much. Late for court, dressed like a hungover frat boy and completely unwilling to communicate with his clients were just the beginning. He DIDNT SHOW UP TO COURT when 12 clients needed him at their bond hearings! 4 weeks in jail without seeing or speaking to your lawyer (even though he was frequently at the jail for court)? Check. Suffering from serious, life-threatening health problems while in jail and not treated appropriately and he didn't care? Check. Bad explanation of filing a motion, hinting at your release within 3 days but actually took 10? Check. Forced families to communicate with the PROSECUTING ATTORNEY (yes, the person working for the "enemy") to get answers? Double check. (BTW the prosecutor was AMAZINGLY helpful-Nicholas Trevino). Luckily, we had Megan Ring when it really mattered (second go-around was way less serious and less work for the Public Defender-thanfully). Do not be stupid and represent yourself but think about fund-raising money to hire a more experienced private attorney. You get what you pay for with the current BCPDO (including supervisor Nicole Collins).
