I have been a patient of Dr. Bernens for about 15 years. I have found him to be kind, compassionate, thorough, a patient listener, excellent communicator, professional and he stays abreast of current pharmaceuticals and medical advances.

I saw Dr Bernens because my bicep hurt and I was slightly out of breath. He ordered two blood tests 'stat.' When the results came in, he phoned and told me to promptly go to Emergency where he would have the staff ready for me. A prompt CT scan showed two large connecting pulmonary embolism, one in each lung. Within hours I was on an operating table. Dr Bernens visited and kept track of my treatment. I can't thank him enough.

Avoid this rip-off phony concierge practice at all costs! I had a New Patient Appointment on Tuesday morning Feb 15th with Dr. Bernens, a concierge practice doctor. When my caregiver and I arrived at the office the front desk clerk acted surprised that I was there and stated that all in-person appointments had been changed to telephone ones and that no in-person appointments would happen until March. She also stated that the doctor wasn't even in the office. My caregiver and I became very angry at this surprise announcement as I had not been informed in any way of the appointment change. The clerk got very defensive and told us to leave. She then suddenly fled to the inner sanctum behind a closed door (I guess she has a fear of angry seniors...) . A few minutes later a different clerk (Tayler Nelson, the one I had dealt with in setting up the appointment) came out from behind the closed door and wouldn't discuss the matter. Instead she simply told us to leave. She also blurted out that the doctor was, in fact, in the back with another patient! So much for only telephone appointments! When we wouldn't leave, the doctor (backed by a security guard) suddenly poked his head out the closed door and also told us (more like ordered us) to leave, uninterested in learning what was the problem. I told him to cancel my concierge practice membership, which he in fact did. After returning home I searched through Dr. Bernens.com again to see if there was now any mention of a policy whereby only telephone appointments were happening until March. The only mention I could now find was buried in the FAQ section. It stated in part:"...As of February 9, 2022, we are continuing to do telehealth visits from our office until March 1, 2022, until the COVID case rate declines. Dr. Bernens is available to take care of you and open during regular hours. Please do not delay seeking care if you have a health concern. We offer telemedicine visits for those patients. We require patients coming for an in-office visit to be vaccinated AND have a recent negative COVID test."BTW, I AM fully vaccinated with a recent negative Covid test result. So the doctor WAS, in fact, seeing patients in-person. Perhaps he found my medical profile too challenging and decided he didn't want me as a patient because of that.My longstanding in-person visit appointment with Dr. Bernens on Feb 15th was verified by telephone the week before (no mention of a telephone visit was mentioned by the male caller). In addition, the John Muir My Chart confirmed that it was an in-person appointment (I checked just before leaving home) citing penalties for being late. No one from Dr. Bernens office ever notified me that my appointment had been changed from in-person to telephone, and no one at his office was able or willing to tell me how I was supposed to know about the change. This has caused me a great deal of anxiety as well as expense (unnecessary travel to the office and a waste of time and energy). Could this be considered a form of malpractice on the part of Dr. Bernens?????? (not a rhetorical question)
