I just enjoyed my first visit to Dorland, which was my first residency at any arts colony. It's a wonderful, safe place to spend some time in creative solitude, with clean, comfortable cottages and glorious views of the valley below. Bring warm clothes in winter and hiking boots if you like to explore, but just about anything else you need is either in your space already or easy to procure with a trip to town. I can't wait to return!

Dorland is a magical place for artists. I have been a resident four times and every visit is inspiring and productive. Janice and Robert who run the place are so helpful and kind, and the cottages are well appointed and clean. I love writing there, and hiking there, and watching the sun rise and set there. I highly recommend it!

Ive visited Dorland at least five times now, and have always found it serene, a great place to write. Beautiful sunsets and mountain views, with hiking trails into the woods. Cabins have kitchens and bath, desk, front porch, and fireplaces; some are 1 bedroom and others are studio style. Horton, Connors, Zachai, and Roripaugh are all near each other but still set far enough away to be private. Markham has the best views and is the farthest away from the other cottages.

Dorland offers a simple cabin, beautiful desert and hills as well as incredible sunsets. This is a place to go for peace and quiet to get creative work done. If you are good at creating structure and are self-directed, then this is a wonderful opportunity to further your art.
