Just watched a driver for PRN load a wheelchair patient in his van and not restrain him at all. No floor restraints or seatbelt. Major safety violation that could lead to injury or death of the patient. License Plate number: 96193X1 Time of Incident: 4:18pm - 5/12/18

I needed a medical transport van to take my wheelchair-ridden wife to the Urgent Care facility about 10 minutes from my home. At the dialysis center where I am a patient I asked the social worker for a recommendation. She gave me a list of about 12 companies from which to choose with 2 of the companies highlighted, PRN and one other. I contacted PRN and made a reservation. The driver was new on the job and not trained very well because he had trouble securing my wife's wheelchair to the back of the van. In fact, when he put the brakes on at one point my wife and the wheelchair slid back and hit the back doors of the van. When we reached our destination the driver said that he would be right there where he parked when we came out. A short while later we went out to the parking lot and he was nowhere around. We waited over 15 minutes and he told us that he went across the street to McDonald's to get a drink. Once again, he had much trouble hooking the wheelchair securely into the van. He got the owner on the phone for me and when I asked for some sort of discount for our inconvenience she was quite argumentative with me. When I told her that she was recommended to me she replied, "Yes, we are the number one company." Funny, because when I checked their 2 reviews on their website they both were only 1 star. When I told her that she was a poor businesswoman and that she lost a future customer she she sad, "No problem, do what you want." My suggestion to anyone who needs medical transportation would be to call anyone else but PRN.

Had used this company for several months for non-emergency medical transportation paid for by my insurance carrier. The first few trips were okay, but things went downhill from there. At first I thought maybe the owner had a "bad day" or two, but now have concluded she's got no business running this type of transportation service where patients are relying on her to get them back and forth to their medical appointments. Today was the latest and most serious issue with her. My insurance had contracted with her company more than a month ago to transport me today to an eye clinic located 30 to 45 minutes from my home. I was to be picked up at 7:30 AM for a 9:00 AM appointment, which would allow enough time for travel in traffic, walking from the clinic entrance to the actual eye clinic, and checking in 15 minutes before my appointment, required by the facility. In fact, due to a problem with this transportation company making me wait TWO hours to be transported back home from an appointment recently, my insurance carrier contacted PRN last week to confirm today's information and told them they are required to pick me up from an appointment within an hour if it is a "will call." Instead, though, I set up a time certain for my return trip today. At 7:35 AM this morning, no driver had arrived at my house, so I called the owner of PRN and she said "You canceled your appointment for today." I hear children making noise in the background. I hear papers shuffling. Then she says "Your appointment was changed from the 10th to the 12th, at 8:00 AM with a pickup at your house at 7:00 AM." I told the owner she must have me confused with someone else. Since this is now the third serious issue with PRN, I politely told her she has no business running a transportation company, that she makes too many errors, forgets things, doesn't confirm appointments, and that even one of her drivers told me on two occasions that she often forgets things regarding the transportation of patients. I advised her I had been more than patient with her, but this was it, and that I would have to take decisive action re the issues. She calls me a half hour later this morning, scrambling to get a driver to pick me up, but I told her there simply was not enough time left to arrive on time and that I would have to reschedule my appointment. She started arguing with me that I could get there on a time and "a driver is on the way and will be knocking on your door," which is just insane when I already told her I would be rescheduling my appointment. I am filing a grievance about this with my insurance carrier AND California Department of Health Care Services in Sacramento, California, which has the ability to intervene with these types of issues. The owner of PRN may have some cognitive issues, which is sad, but she has no business putting patient health at risk (let alone the stress on one's mental health) but having no clue what she is doing!
