Here is my horror story: Due to shelter-in-place (SIP), we had great difficulty in finding a groomer for Coco, our standard poodle. Our regular groomer in Sausalito was closed and the few that were open nearby told us they didn't take new customers or told us they were only doing kennel cuts at the time. Katy's Pet Salon in Sonoma offered to take Coco for a cut on May 27 @ 12pm. When I introduced Coco to Katy I told her that we do not cut Coco like a poodle but rather like a doodle (we keep his hair rather long through his whole body). She checked him and said the fur on the ears was too matted and that she'd have to shave them. I said ok, but try your best for the rest of the body - which was not badly matted. I asked how much time she needed and she told me Coco would be ready around 3pm/3:30pm. I said my wife would pick him up at 4pm and I left her info with Katy. When my wife arrived to pick up our dog, she saw Coco in a cage, his head still full of hair. Katy told her she was not finished with him yet and that she needed an extra hour/90 minutes. With hindsight, we realized that 1 hour/90 minutes for grooming a standard poodle who had not had a cut in months was an impossible task. Also, the fact that Katy did not call my wife to let her know that she was running very late showed a lack of care toward her clients. We should have picked up Coco and left. My wife could not wait for Coco to be ready so I went to pick him up at 5pm. He was totally SHAVED, shaking, and scared. I'd never seen him like that (he didn't let me get close to him for almost a week). But there is more to it. Following that experience, Coco started licking his paws and shaking his head a lot. I thought Katy had plucked his ears and that he was just feeling some discomfort, but after a few days I decided to bring him to the vet. My vet asked me right away: "Who is the groomer you brought Coco to? He's been abused. We want to know their name to make sure we do not send any of our customers there". I was stunned! The fact that my vet verbalized what I thought had happened made me even sadder and I felt worse about my dog who used to be very confident/fearless. My wife wrote an email to Katy 2 days after she had completely shaved Coco complaining about our terrible experience; as of today, we have not heard back from that groomer. That, and my visit to the vet, is what makes me write this review today. Poor customer service is one thing, but abusing dogs left in your care is inexcusable!
