I had two recommendations and saw positive google reviews so I took a chair to Dan's Upholstery to have a slip cover made. Big Mistake!! He took a $200 deposit and my chair promising to have the job done in "2 weeks". 5 months later I finally got my chair back after weekly phone calls for at least 6 weeks. I'll never see that deposit again but I feel lucky to have gotten my chair although it was returned dirty and with new rips.

I took my 6yo sofa cushions to Dan’s with the intent of having him replace the foam with new high resilience foam. He quoted me $500 for the two pieces of 5” high resilience foam, Dacron, and to sew the buttons back in place. I agreed and he wrote up the receipt but told me his card machine was down and I'd need to pay him cash. I paid him $350 cash up front, with the agreement to pay the remainder upon delivery. I was out of the area the next 6 weeks, but I checked in with him when I arrived back in Santa Cruz. He had not begun any work on the cushions at all. I started checking back about every two weeks, but every time there was an excuse about why he could not drive to San Jose to buy the foam. There was always a promise that he would have it done the next week. This went on for over 3 months until I gave him an ultimatum in early January. He finally told me the cushions were ready, so I drove to pick them up. When I saw them, they looked too thin, but I could not prove it at that point. I paid him the remaining $150 and took them home. When I put the cushions on the sofa, it was obvious they were not thick enough. I opened one of them up and found that he had used a single piece of 3” foam with two ½” pieces of scrim (used in auto seats) on each side. I sectioned a piece of the old cushion and it measure 6” thick. I went back the same day to Dan’s, showed him his foam vs the correct foam, and told him I was not satisfied. He immediately offered to get the correct foam and fix the problem. At this point, I agreed to let him fix his mistake (which I regret). I gave him the thin foam and took the covers with me with the understanding I would bring them back in once he had the foam. Another week went by with more excuses from him. At this point I had been without cushions on my sofa for over 3 months, so I decided to drive over to Bob’s Foam in Fremont to get my cushions fixed. They did a perfect job with the correct foam within 2 hours for $300. I called Dan the next day and told him I wanted him to return $300 of the $500 I paid him (I was being generous). He said he would have to go to his bank to get the cash the following day. This once again turned into a few more weeks of excuses as to why the money was just a couple days from being available in his account. I finally gave him a deadline to return the money or I would report him to the BBB and leave a review. I never heard back from him. I would stay far away from Dan’s. He has a reputation with other upholstery people in the area that is well deserved.

Called to get a price and responded back fast . We thought about getting our company chairs redone but it's cheaper to replace instead.
