Sooo good! Anna and Bruce are the best. The food here is amazing. I get the number 8 with a ground beef enchilada. Always be sure to get the shredded chicken tacos. They are out of this world. Come check it out! Say Carter sent you :)

I love this place. Have been coming here with family since i was little (I'm 22 now) and have continued coming here with my boyfriend. We are regulars. Hard to try new food, chicken chimichangas and super burritos are my personal fav. The chips and salsa are amazing too! Always great service, ending with the chocolate mint Andes candies! I will always recommend this place!

This month we say goodbye to a downtown Santa Rosa icon, La Bufa Mexican restaurant on 4th street. I first ate at La Bufa over 40 years ago; a stop at Sawyer's News for some magazines, then a quick lunch just down the street with guacamole, beans, and deep fried hard shell beef tacos.
The menu at La Bufa hadn't changed much over the course of its existence, mostly the addition of new meats to keep up with the times and more importantly, to me at least, Delia took the radishes out of the guacamole! It's been over 40 years and my wife Lisa and I have tried just about everything on the menu, and enjoyed every plate full.
As you can see from the other reviews people either love this place or hate it. It all depends on your expectations of what "real" Mexican food is and, frankly, your age and what you grew up eating. If you grew up before the explosion of taco trucks, Taquerias, and street tacos then La Bufa was just for you. Hearty plates of food that made you think of a Mexican café somewhere on Route 66 in the 1950s or 1960s; real fried food, lush thick sauces, Delia's chili gravy, homemade beans with lard, and a simple but delightful tomato salsa. If you were calorie counting La Bufa was never the place for you, and if you grew up eating street tacos it was unlikely you would enjoy the heavier, traditional cooking at La Bufa.
In the 1970s and 1980s the place was packed at lunch and dinner; the large tables in back always full of SRPD officers on their lunch breaks. Things started to slow down in the late 1990s when downtown developed more Mexican food options, but La Bufa had a core of loyal customers that stood them well. La Bufa fared well into the 21st Century, surviving an onslaught of "food truck nights" and new Taquerias, but Delia wasn't getting any younger, and neither was her customer base (myself most of all!).
Like people every restaurant has a life span. Statistics show that over 90 percent of new restaurants close within the first year. The average life of those that make it through the first year is just five years. La Bufa, and Delia, have both been going strong for over 40 years. As others have said, she has to be doing something right! If there was any justice in the world today would have been declared "La Bufa Day" by the city of Santa Rosa. Nice dream, right?
I want to thank Delia, her daughter, and all of the cooks and servers for giving us over 40 years of great meals. And a special recognition for Bruce, who for the last few years has provided the kind of service that made every meal a delight and an adventure. Best of luck with your painting Bruce. And to Delia unending thanks and enjoy your much deserved retirement.
With love and thanks,
Ken and Lisa
