Classic French dishes were on par or better than those we enjoyed in Paris recently at 4.5+ rated restaurants, particularly the rabbit, a standout that all five of us agreed was the dish of the night. Duck and fish were very good. Service was very attentive, personable and fun, especially Jean Francois who had us laughing and provided excellent recommedations. Escargot was possibly the best we've had. White Meursault Burgundy wine was also exceptional. Dessert souffl gran marnier was delicious (we finished 3 of them!) Entrance was through the Cornell Hotel de France, very pretty and clean, greeted at the door. We didn't feel rushed at all. We also visited the very lively Starlite Room cocktail lounge nearby after dinner and parked in the Union Square garage about 1.5 blocks away. Happy to see how much cleaner and safer this large parking garage is from 18 months ago. Strong security presence on every floor and at entrances, no more odors or trash. Felt very safe even leaving near 11 pm. Nightlife was hopping.

I was so happy to see this lovely, historic restaurant reopen, but they have some significant growing pains to overcome. The service was very off. My friend and I felt very rushed throughout our meal. Our starters came out at different times. However the house salad and soup were very good. When we finished our half bottle of wine, no one-- not even once-- asked if we wanted to order another bottle or even another glass of wine. I had the roasted chicken entree and it was very disappointing. One of the "pieces" on my plate was the neck which was inedible. That left me the tiniest leg I've ever seen and maybe half of a tiny breast. The server never told us at the beginning of the meal that we had to order the dessert souffle then so it would be ready by the end of the meal so we ended up ordering the creme brulee which was very good. What should have been a leisurely 3-course meal ended up with us leaving in just under an hour-- that's how rushed and pushy the service was. I may give this place one more try because of my prior good memories, but if it doesn't improve, there are plenty of other great places in the city for French food.

Our group of five retired guys had dinner at restaurant Jeanne dArc last night. The service was good, the atmosphere for a Tuesday night was lukewarm, meaning that being in the basement of the hotel above I personally found the place a little cold. We brought our own bottle of wine, corkage fee was $25, our waiter brought us bread and butter and set up wine glasses. The food, classic French dishes with a flair, descent and copious . I started with prawn & scallops in a tomatoes & wine sauce well prepared (sans the coquille) they should call it something else than Coquille St Jacques. I followed with Filet mignon, served with scallop potatoes & baby carrots & Haricots vert, the filet was covered in a brown wine sauce with mushrooms, all delicious. Finally for the pice de resistance I opted for the Grand Marnier souffl, classic signature dessert from chef Moutal, the original chef. All in all an enjoyable meal with friend, expect the cost to be around 100$ to 120$ per persons, without wine or tips, which for a special occasion is well worth it. Bon apptit!
