I don't do many reviews but this seemed particularly worthwhile since Yelp is one of the ways I found Mike.Years ago I worked on an equity trading desk here in SF so I come upon the topic of Financial Advisors with a TON of cynicism.  I knew I wanted an hourly/fee based advisor and I did not want a "stock jockey."  If you are unsure how you are being charged, you're probably being fleeced with high payout products and/or high turnover; if you are being charged a percentage of assets under management, you have two problems, 1) if you're past "just starting out" and have a little money, you're being overcharged, and 2) your advisor is likely only managing your stock/bond portfolio (and neglecting other investments, real estate, insurance, etc).That being said, Mike is a find!  He knows what he is talking about, he does what he says and he follows up.  Numbers two and three there are important, but are self-explanatory.  So quick comments on his knowledge.  He understands risk, and he looks for it in more places than just your asset allocation.  He can analyze your budget, your goals and your portfolio.  He understands how all the financial parts and pieces of your life fit together and makes them into a clear picture.  And he does it all for a reasonable fee that is simple and straightforward.

Mike is the most thoughtful and approachable financial planner you could ask for.  He has been key to our financial planning over the past few years.  His advice is always thoughtful, his pricing is quite reasonable (not tied to portfolio trades or performance, which we think is important) and his ethics are above reproach.  If you are serious about getting yourself in a position to retire or to make other important financial decisions, Mike is a person you should meet.  I can't recommend him more highly!

Mike has helped guide me on a complicated Defined Benefit retirement program that my accountant recommended for my last year tax returns. In doing so, he assessed my overall risk tolerance which even included my established portfolios with other brokerage firms so I have a complete picture of all my investments and retirement funds together. This has been an invaluable tool to evaluate how to move forward with the funds that Mike is managing for me. I am even considering moving over addt'l funds from other accounts, (but I've never once felt the pressure to do so from Mike.) I feel good that Mike is helping me protect my principal while giving me ideas to grow my portfolio.  I'll re-review in 20 yrs when I retire and let you know if I still feel the same way.
